Gonna be honest now, the only problem I have with light bars is when it’s on the big full size 10 in lifted trucks. Those light bars aren’t lighting up the road, it’s blinding everyone I front of you.

Oh the amber fog guys lmao yeah cruising with fog lights on . It's pretty typical here in the PNW. If driving conditions are horrible I have fogs and headlights on . Dawn or dusk drls and fogs . City driving at night just headlights . Daytime uhhh shut em off duh. Lol

Agree. My friend lives in the boonies and there's a few really twisty areas full of deer I do the whole light show while I'm driving through there and more than once I caught a deer on the shoulder.

That being said, when I have any of the light show on I'm driving with my fingers over the button. The second I see any sort of light source in that area (it's extremely twisty) I kill everything.

I saw a Mustang with a light bar on in broad daylight today. Not just a Jeep or truck thing.

    In town, absolutely.

But I just got done driving a barren highway in Nevada with a shitload of pronghorn and elk in the dark. Nobody for miles around. I got no problem looking like the lunar rover, but I see headlights a mile off and you bet they all be off asap.

Nothing like driving through open range country in Eastern Oregon at night and coming up to a herd of angus bedded down and sleeping on the road. They are dark black and the only thing I could see of them was their eyeshine with just enough time to stop. Had I hit them I would have been liable to the owner (open range law). I don’t have a lightbar, but I did put a couple high intensity spots on my roof to light up the road ahead when traveling at night. I do have to turn them off for other cars, they are really bright.

Way back in the early days of the 3G forum, there was a video of a guy in a white 3G Tacoma, who rounds a corner on a gravel road, with his lightbar blazing in broad daylight, who then proceeds to put a front tire on the upper bank beside the road, and roll his truck. It’s a legendary scene in my mind.

Dammed if I can find that vid now. Maybe someone else remembers it as well? I’d love to see it again.

I knew I was going to get clap back on that one.

There's what we should do, and there's what we actually do. Technically, off road lights should never be used on road. Emphasis on should.

But if you're alone in the woods and your light bar makes a sound with no one to see it... Ok, that's not exactly a dickhead move, we can all agree to that.

... I'm just not going to admit to it. :D

You aren't wrong... here in B.C. if you are on public highways your auxiliary lamps are legally supposed to be covered. And we have lots of dark winding highways in the north and east.

How the hell is that a law? You leave your property to sit unattended in the middle of a dark road and I'm liable?

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Yes it matters to those of us with aging eyes that don't react as fast as you youngens. Too much light (even somewhat indirect) after dark from an oncoming vehicle causes pupils to contract. But after the oncoming vehicle is past, it takes a bit longer for the pupils to widen again, resulting in somewhat challenged vision.
Yes, I know the tricks to deal with this. But if the extra light from the fogs isn't really needed (i.e. no fog) why the eff should they be on?

Yup- Google “open range law” - in open range districts on open range states (Az, Nv, Or, etc), if you want to keep someone else’s cattle off your land and roads, you have to put in a fence, otherwise they are allowed to go anywhere they want and the cattle owner does not have to fence them in! And if someone accidentally harms them, they are liable to the owner.

It’s not a California thing- we are a closed range state

Nobody in Seattle area knows how to drive or pays attention anyways, might as well keep the fog pods on so they half ass see me before they pull out in front of me. Then thats where the lightbar comes into play, to make sure that they have proper interior lighting so they can see their phone moar better.

There are few things that bring me more pleasure than blinding the fuck out of someone running their auxiliary lights, or those behind me with their brights on

Years ago off road lights were supposed to be cover! Today the laws may vary state to state.
Many aftermarket headlights and fog lights are illegal for streets, but guys still install and use those lights.

Many aftermarket fog lights can be purchase for street use and non-street use. But too many guys turn on the non-street fog lights on the highways.

My pod lights I thought were not going to past our yearly safety checks, ( I had black socks w/zip ties for cover) , found out bar lights and aftermarket lights do not need covers.

Those lights that are illegal for street use will cause future problems, maybe DOT will set new rules. Will we need covers again? Maybe if the abuse continues and too many accidents. Laws will change.

Well it seems to me that those running with a light bar on full-time have also tinted the windshields so dark they can't see out and are also wearing sunglasses. So maybe there is a method to the madness or not.

When I went to church, they ask “do you see the light”! “ I do every night while driving.”
