At 67 years of age I recently put a Joying head unit in my 07. It is plug and play, but (IMO) you will need to tinker with settings and "whatnot" to both "know" the unit and/or customize it to your liking. Kind of like when you buy a computer for the first time and spend time learning how to navigate through the apps and their settings.

I have a dasaita, I would call it a "tinkerers" radio. It's not nearly as polished as a true headunit from Kenwood or Pioneer but it does have some fun features.

A lot of the Chinese “android tablet” style headunits are plug-n-play. The downside, as mentioned, is the “tinkering” with settings, having things “break” in settings and needing to reset them, etc. The big manufacturers headunits, KENWOOD, Pioneer, Sony etc., have more stable units to work with, but are not simple plug-n-play. If you buy from Crutchfield, for example, you’ll get a harness adapter and an instruction sheet, which tells you which color wire attaches from the headunit to the harness adapter for ease of connection. That adapter IS plug-n-play with your factory wiring.

Another question, do you have steering wheel audio controls? If you do, you need another box to connect to make them work, or live without them. I think the “android tablets” CAN make them work without anything extra.

I would agree. I have the same. I’d you end up using apple car play or android auto most of the time it’s mostly simple. Car play is mainly what I use. I have a small nine to hooked up to the AV input for the kid too.

For the guys with the Joying and Dasaita units, are you able to use the factory back up camera and steering wheel controls?

Yes you are. The newer ones you need the cab bus version. 12-on. Check out the Dasaita threads. There is a 2nd and 3rd but informative for both.

without it you still can get camera to work but need to get a 6v adapter and tap it in. Steering works. The can bus allows both with a change of a setting. That’s what I am running.
