Now that I've had a chance to take a closer look, I can clearly see the "DS" paint marker, for Driver Side, on the one they installed on the passenger side. Looks like I have next weekend's project sorted out. Too rainy this weekend to tackle it.

 

Not necessarily, there is an option to get an upgraded rear view mirror with a monitor in it, but I really find that too small to be useful.

The audio sub forum here is probably a better to place to ask tech questions, but as someone who has modified almost every vehicle I’ve owned since I started driving back in the late 80s, it’s only been in the last few years that factory systems have become “good enough” for me. Especially because I have a regular cab, I went with a simple system consisting of a stereo component front stage and a self powered sub. Also, I had a rear view camera in my last truck, so I knew I wanted it in the Taco as well. It’s entirely possible to put together a nice system on a budget, as you’re realistic about your needs and wants.

On second thought, it just cleared up. Big change in the forecast from yesterday. I might get on it now. Shouldn't be too hard now that the hardware is all new.

 

Got 245/75R17s mounted on the truck today along with an oil change and alignment. While I was talking with the guys at Tire Outlet their manager overheard me talking about starting work at a tire shop across town next Monday and gave me an application with my invoice when I left . He knocked the disposal fee off my charge too so if things don’t work out where I currently work I know the place I’ll be applying.

My neighbor also offered me his swingcase toolbox from his sierra as long as I can find a bracket for it. Anyone ever use one before who can tell me how well they do? I’m especially worried about how waterproof they are, my leer tonneau cover hasn’t been waterproof since 2015 .

 

@HAVOC when planes hit birds and all thats left is goo...we call it snarge...so its snarge...google it...we send it to be identified so we can better plan for that type of bird around the airfield...whole science behind snarge..

I don't know about anyone else, but the few times I have had to drop my spare tire has lead to lots of cussing and having to find a flashlight.
You've already got a reason to be dropping your spare tire, so your probably pissed already, and then having to hunt for a way to see only makes it worse!!
It's dark back in that hole, even in the bright sunlight, you cant see if you have engaged the pulley or not, and it's hard to just do it by feeling alone.
So today, I decided to remedy that situation.

Here's a before shot:

Start by taking a piece of an old LED light strip and soldering some wires to the contacts:


Find some place to tap power way in the back of the bed:

That is the harness for the trailer lights and power, black is 12v, white is ground.

Find a switch, I had one in my parts drawer, and create a wiring harness for your new light.


Used some silicone adhesive and a zip tie to hold the light in place:



Drill a big enough hole for your on/off switch next to the rectangular "spare tire hole" (forgot to take a pic of that)


Wire everything up, turn key to "run" position, flip your new switch, and now you can see wtf you are doing!!!!!

 

Scored some new 3rd gen suspension for my ‘06 PreRunner. New front shocks/ coils, new upper control arms and new rear shocks. Installed today. Now see that I also need new lower ball joints, tie rod ends and sway bars links. Ohh and I found a nail in the rear tire so need to get that patched Monday.

I absolutely love it.. How do you access the water stored in the front tank? Is there a connection underneath?

 

Closer to 5', and on the right side of the truck between the cab and headache rack. It is just a gravity fed system. Works nicely for odds and ends.

 

Getting some of the gunk out of the carpets on my wife’s truck.

 

Prepped the bed for our next trip to URE. Spare tire mounted along with mounting the pro eagle using the existing bed bolts.




I also made up a bracket for a friends single arb compressor. Made it fit into a tight spot and took up hardly any room at all. He’s happy with it and beats buying a mount. Was able to use some scrap I had laying around.

 

Looks yummy.

 

I couldn't bring myself to spend $170 for bed stiffeners. I've been slowly teaching myself more metalworking and welding so I decided to make my own instead.
