Finished product. Far from perfect but they seem to work. Tailgate gap is even on both sides now.

I had a 3.5k axle with brakes built to closely match the width of the Taco.

I bought all my steel and aluminum from a local Steel Yard called Schorr Metals.

The Smithsonian Institute provides the identification services for free. Well, at least for Airports they do. They may do it for private entities, but I’ve only sent samples in for work.

 

Hot as heck out, so I woke up early and put in a new serpentine belt. While I was down there, I installed a diff drop kit I picked up a couple months ago.

Odered a PCV valve and a UNI filter on Friday, that will be next weekend's task list.

Dude those look great! I haven't had any issues with my bed/topper combo... yet. But maybe I ought to do the same.

Also- For anyone thinking that welding is too hard/complicated.. it's really not. Anyone can do it with a few hours on the youtube and a few hours practice. I'm a commercial diver, so I do wet welding and topside welding often, and it's not as daunting as you might think. I had unrealistic expectations thinking it was some magical hidden art form before I learned. It's just like anything.

I'm always glad to see someone saying "fuck it, I'm gonna teach myself to weld". Looks good dude.

 

I just installed mine 3 days ago, I wasn’t sure at first but there growing on me!
Mine are a little different than yours. I think I like yours better, they look more low profile

 

Thanks man. It's definitely an intimidating practice to pick up. I've wanted to learn for years but haven't taken the leap. I've got all the tools and materials at my disposal with my work so there's no better time than the present. Now I gotta keep practicing and find some more projects to tinker with.
I also got a kick in the ass a few months ago when I stripped out the front diff plug and didn't know how to weld a nut to get it off.

Bought some old sticks at a garage sale and turned one into a gear shift knob (idea from a shift knob thread on here). I love the Hurst shifter, just wanted to mix it up for a bit!
