So Im in the market to do a cab mount relocate but my frame has had the protective coating sprayed inside of the boxed in frame rails and what im reading is that its a class 3 flammable material.

My question is has anyone welded on their boxed in frame rail (front portion) after the coating has been applied? Or should I just cut my body mount as close as I can to the bushing? I dont want to start a fire in the frame rail and have it get out of hand.

It catches on fire, it’s flammable. The welder and I found that out…lol. Have a hose ready, that’s what we did. :)

You're gonna wanna grind that stuff away from anywhere you're welding.. But I'd imagine it will catch fire like a piece of steel with thick paint. Run into it all the time in the marine-welding world. As Tego said, just keep a hose around. But try not to douse your welds, they become more brittle and can crack/fail when cooled rapidly like that.

In my youth I watched a very rare Porsche 911 that had just finished being restored go up in flames because of one spot weld. Undercoating lit off and the car was gone before anything could be done about it. We locked the doors and all of us took the rest of the day off. Stay safe out there...
