Tailgate with Camera Question

Hey guys I got a question before I make a purchase.
If I have a 09 with a camera in the tailgate handle and it works great, can I replace the tailgate with a standard tailgate and install the camera without any issues? Wanted to maek sure before I made the purchase. Thanks so much!

 

As long as there's a spot for the camera you should be fine. If there's not a hole for the camera, check that the plastic piece where the camera normally goes can pop out. If it does you're good.

 

Just swap the handles out with the new tailgate

 

I just did this. I swapped a tailgate from a standard Tacoma to one that had a camera. All you need to do is swap the handle and the camera harness, the latches and rods will work with the older standard tailgate and wont need to be swapped over. The standard tailgate had all the holes that were needed to run the wires. I just swapped over the harness and handle with the camera and done. Let me know if you have any questions.

 

Yes, it will work. I did the opposite. My 05 didn't come with a camera. I ordered a handle made for a camera and it bolts right in.

 

So I guess the question is do you really need to swap the tailgate or you just need a new handle?
