Has anyone done a F150 fuel tank swap? Looking into this. Saw a guy do it for his 4 runner but the process was way too elaborate. Looking for a way to do it and still pass smog.

Can pretty much guarantee that ain't happening.

4Runner and Tacoma are pretty different at least from the gas tank stand point so it may or may not even be possible.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
If your in California I have no idea just what is legal.

Here To install any fuel tank the evap system has to be made to work the correct fuel pump for the engine.

Custom brackets to hold the tank. A good fill location some go through the bed .

As long as it all works no MIL lights your good to go.

You might need to go to a aftermarket fuel gauge and sender because they stock ones don`t play well together without more research just a guess.

I think just having a different fuel cell is a no-go already.

As for the 4Runner F150 fuel tank swap; you do realize that's a thing when going long travel right?

If you have the right lower links, sway bar removed, and long enough rear shocks and coils, the only remaining inhibitors are the upper link locations and the stock fuel tank.

Under severe flex, the drive shaft makes contact with the stock fuel tank.

After that, the upper links become an issue as they're really short and are fully-vertical under heavy droop.

    VideoCapture_20211010-153400.jpg

    Tacoma's don't have that issue.

I can't say for certain; this thread doesn't warrant the effort it takes for me to look up CARB legal stuff in CA :burp:

Instead, I'll enjoy my redbull vodka and play Breath of the Wild while cycling back and forth through this and other misc. stuff while my wife works in the dining room.

Any F150 tank is already CARB compliant. They actually sell a lot of Fords in Cali. lol

Nooo I haven't yet; I already got control of 2 Divine Beasts and then I thought...fuck I should've gotten the DLC and started that at the beginning.

I forgot I had it as my Switch was in storage for a long time still new in box

    Thanks for that.

Think the question was more or less 'a fuel tank from another vehicle' but really, no one needs to know right?

All they do is plug in the OBD2, run it on a dyno and do a sniffer.

    Easy peasy.

They may be when they're installed in their original Ford, however, AFAIK CARB outlaws any modifications to the factory EVAP/Emissions systems.

Though I'm certainly no expert being in no fucks given Florida.

They don't outlaw moving the tank or putting in a fuel cell. 1/2 the guys I wheel with are running cells that are CARB compliant. That's the thing. It has to be CARB compliant and you have to keep all the emission control systems in place. For the F150 swap that's pretty easy to do and there's plenty of write-ups on the 4Runner forums.

All I know is my Cali friends seem to bitch whenever they go for smog and get rejected if they so much as sneeze on their valve covers before dropping it off.

I've been lucky in all my years.

And for those that wouldn't pass, well...there was always a guy that was just a bit more expensive.

Yeah, smog in Cali sucks. That's why I live in a smog once county. The time between smogs is yearly, every 2 years, or whenever you sell the vehicle. That's all based on population. Inyo county is very big area wise and very small population wise. It's the secret to getting around CA smog laws. lol

No but really, I need a good friend in Oregon.

Veteran plates there are forever plates, at least that's what I remember a few years ago.

CARBs been cracking down on that shit hard. A buddy of mine is a smog tech and he won't fudge it for me. Much less some random off the street. lol

    Yeah I remember.

One of my Corvettes hasn't been registered or non-OP for some 5-6 years now.

Last time I got a crooked smog was for a Miata I used to drive to the track.

Here though my city is really small (6k people) and I know the cops very well. They'd let me be if they saw Oregon plates on my LC.
