The last week or so my truck's radio has been displaying -999F for local temperature. That isn't the real time temperature that is displayed in the speedometer cluster, but rather sourced from HD Radio. There are dozens of HD radio stations where I live, and I can't seem to find anyway to reset or reprogram that function of the HD radio.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so how did you fix it?

Try pulling the HU fuse. If that doesn’t work try disconnecting the battery.

The -999F is typically an error due to a disconnected or broken temperature sensor.

Interesting. Do you know where the sensor is, or any schematics I can use to troubleshoot ?

It's behind the grille, in front of the condenser.

Thanks for the information and I've tried a little trouble shooting over the last few months: It either displays proper temperature or weather image (sun, clouds, rain, etc.) but almost never both anymore. If the temperature is properly displayed, the weather image is blank, well black to match the background. If it displays -999F and I touch the weather then look at recent cities or radar map and back to home page, sometimes the temperature will correct itself but still not display the weather graphic.

I've removed the sensor and tested it, there was no continuity (open circuit) with ambient temperature around 90F/ 32C. The dealer would like to charge $80 for a software update as an attempt to resolve this, but they aren't sure the software update is the solution. Whereas a new sensor is about $40. My guess is the sensor is faulty, as well as the less expensive option if we're just throwing money at it.

Have either of you two heard of this condition before?
