Sell it and use the money toward their college fund and let them walk or take the bus to work.

Probably what I will miss the most if I sell it is visiting this forum and the snarky remarks. No sarcasm.

College is taken care of for both kids. House is paid for. Only car not paid for is new one. Not looking for financial advice.

Just looking for some input from Tacoma owners that have more vehicles than drivers. What is the rationale for an extra vehicle?

You think we actually own tacomas?

We have 5 vehicles and probably 6 soon to my wife’s chagrin.

I have no rationale other than I like them and they all do different things better than the others. My kid will probably get one of them at some point but the Tacoma is honestly not one that will be a keeper in the long run.

Depends...is it a good year a bad year? Wish I'd never sold my 86 4x4 (bought new) when I got my 2005 (also bought new) still liked it but another story and no where near tuff as the 86...but my new 22 better outlast me, 68 now. Can't wait to get it back into the woods next fall.
By the way my dad NEVER supplied me and my three brothers with autos growing up. Had to work and save just like he did. Better for it to me thinks!

Damn the world has changed... Contemplating keeping a $25K or so vehicle so a kid has something to drive in 6 years. :notsure:

I bought my own first car with money from my job.

Vehicles are a depreciating asset and they make more of them every day -- sell it now for top dollar and do something intelligent with the money.

Idk about the nostalgia the 3rd gen will ever have matching the gen1's, but with all the whining going on tw here, the 3rd gen tacoma will have it beat for sure in notoriety.

While I don't think gas will be outlawed any time soon there is something to take into account in relation to gas cars in the future.

The trend towards turbos and hybrids to increase mileage, and the uptick in EV sales will change how future buyers will look at older vehicles and gas mileage.

Given the current high prices for used cars, and an unsure future into people's driving preferences later, I'd say selling now in a strong used market makes sense.

We just did pretty much the same thing.....sold a spare vehicle to capitalize on the high used market. Our daughter is 3 years away from driving so we parked the $$$ in the bank to pick up something later. We made decent $$$ and are saving on registration/taxes/insurance since we no longer own the car.

Only rationale I could think of is if the utility of having a truck is needed. Can you make do with the other vehicles you have left?

That's why we sold our spare. It was redundant and didn't cover any bases our other cars didn't.

I would not seek financial advice from a group that a large portion of people probably have thrown thousands, if not tens of thousands, of dollars at an unpaid vehicle. I could be wrong though,,, just sayin.

"A. Keep it for 10 year old son when he is old enough to drive."

Just simply, give your kid a 30,000 mile vehicle = times sure have changed...

Get it tuned with KD Max tune and you won't want to drive the car anymore. A truck will always come in handy from time to time. If the boy thinks he will want it, keep it.

    A bunch..and no build thread!
You can do different things with them.

    Sensible around town? That's the 22 4Runner.

Hitting the trails? That's the Taco.

Wind therapy? That's what my motorcycles are for.

Vehicles are not simply a utilitarian pursuit to some, they are an activity to enjoy.

I think that has a lot more to do with overall housing costs today than years ago. One salary and your family could live easily years ago…. Have you seen housing prices across the country? I’m the first to trash kids younger than me but reality is, it’s unaffordable to live now.

    I agree.

The world is in a period of chaos and there are no guarantees of what the next 10 years will hold. We may still be burning gasoline, but if I was betting on anything, the comforting concept of one day handing the keys to “dad’s old pickup truck” over to your son on his way off to college in 10 years time, etc, is unlikely. I think the social and economic stability, that such a nostalgic idea requires to become reality, has passed. The pace of change has quickened for everyone.
