I want to see the line by line estimate to see what all they wrote and the rates lol. 39K is a lot. I’ve actually never totaled a newer Tacoma. Almost always repairable. I think the newest Tacoma I totaled was a 2012 or 2013.

Not hating; your financial decision is yours alone to make, but there are plenty of dealers in CA selling these at MSRP. I was able to pick mine up out of allocation and it was delivered less than 2 weeks later. Not that MSRP is a great deal either; I never paid MSRP for any vehicle until the Tacoma (the wifey’s Model 3 doesn’t count).

I've totaled stuff at 50% in tx because salvage value was so high and they would use one of our in network shops which had it at 75 days, etc.

Rather hit up the field guys up front and say hey do we want to go down this road cause this initial estimate is bullshit and this person is going to be fucking pissed in 45 days when y'all decide to total it..

    • AARP Auto Insurance from The Hartford has new car replacement insurance that replaces your car with a new car of the same make, model and equipment if your car was totaled within the first 15 months or 15,000 miles (whichever comes first).
    • Allstate. New car replacement insurance from Allstate will replace a new car if it’s two model years old or less.
    • Amica. New car replacement coverage from Amica is available through the company’s Platinum Choice Auto package. The company’s new replacement coverage replaces a totaled vehicle with a new car if it’s under a year and has fewer than 15,000 miles on it.
    • Erie Insurance. With New Auto Security from Erie, cars less than two years old are replaced with the newest model. If your car is more than two years old, you will be reimbursed for a comparable model that’s two years newer.
    • Farmers. New car replacement by Farmers insurance will replace your car with a new one of the same make and model if the car is totaled within the first two model years and 24,000 miles.
    • Horace Mann. Both new car replacement and better car replacement are offered by Horace Mann. If you are an educator, you can get new car replacement as a free benefit as part of the Educator Advantage Program.
    • Liberty Mutual. New car replacement insurance from Liberty Mutual pays for a new car if your totaled car is under one year old and has less than 15,000 miles. They also offer better car replacement insurance which pays for a car that’s one model year newer and 15,000 fewer miles than your current car.
    • Nationwide. New car replacement insurance from Nationwide pays to replace the vehicle as long as it’s less than three years old.
    • Travelers. “Premier” new car replacement from Travelers pays to replace the car with a new one of the same make and model if your car is totaled within the first five years of ownership.

Good grief! I hope CA at least buys you dinner first before they bend you over LOL. So not only do they charge you tax on the full value of the vehicle (no reduction for trade-in value), the charge you almost $800 a year for tags? Wow!

Here in FL we don't have a state income tax, registration fees are about $70 a year for my truck, and we pay sales tax on the difference between the new car value and trade-in value. We do, however, have a "new wheels" tax where they charge you an extra $225 if new plates are issues (not transferred from your previous vehicle). Then of course there is the dreaded Southeast Toyota Distributors tax where you get bent over for overpriced distributor options you don't want or need, and you can't finance with TFS or buy an actual Toyota factory extended warranty. You have to deal with SE Toyota's finance and warranty companies. It's basically like the mafia lol.

If you finance your taxes and fees then yes, you are 100% underwater on the loan. It's simple math, if you owe more than the vehicle is worth then you are underwater. Luckily for people that make that poor decision they can get GAP coverage for fairly cheap to protect themselves.

If you take the time to read my post, I’m not talking about OPTIONAL additional coverages. New car replacement is not a standard part of the policy. It’s an optional coverage over and above the basic premiums we pay and not everybody has it. Nor does every company offer it in every state. Additionally, if you read the actual underwriting of the policy (which you should), new car replacement pays for what the vehicle cost is for the same year/make/model, read ‘MSRP’; if you paid a markup, the insurance company isn’t paying that back to you.

Quoting myself: “No insurance company is going to pay you what you paid for the vehicle directly”

OP I really hope you stuck this to your company regarding what happened.

Just add to the services paid during F&I and you can finance your gap coverage so insurance doesn't have to! This was painful to read through, fortunately** my insurance is hardly going up next month, wonder why with no accidents or tickets in 16+ years.

I read your post fine. Your post is correct to the degree. But why disregard coverage that is available with most preferred carriers? No coverage is standard, everything is optional. You don't have to have UM/BI-PD, you don't have to have Comp and Coll or rental car reimbursement or roadside assistance. Besides Liability every other coverage is OPTIONAL, just like New car replacement coverage. You choose what you need or want.

I have the 9 pages version where they break down the parts. However, this is the end of the deal.

oh look my reply ban for this thread finally expired LOL.

if you have a loan.. your loan terms should require comp/coll so those aren't really optional either.

and yes... new/newer vehicle replacement is available yet nearly no one has it. i've totaled thousands and thousands of cars and saw NVR endorsements maybe 3 times.

i can still hear those conversations now
"but the commercial said you would replace my vehicle!"
"yeah, they do, but you don't have that coverage"
"well how would i know? i didn't read it."
