With all the added weight on the truck (~600lbs in the bed for camping), a cap that sticks 8” over my cab, and E rated tires (235/85/16), the 2.7 has turned into even more of a slug. It’s tolerable and has done a few road trips well. But I see a regear in the future if I want bigger tires.

If I were to purchase everything needed from ECGS, what do I need to get? And what should I do while I’m in there? Thanks all

Sorry I don't know anything about re-gearing but nice setup! A 12V fan and light? Now I know how my black Access Cab would look with black wheels.

You dont need a regear you need more power. Sell it and get a v6. A regear only for the tires, yeah it’ll give you higher rpms but you need power.

When I ordered my gears for my 05, I was told I need a v6 carrier for the front diff.
Still have everything in boxes, so can't confirm...sorry.

Awesome, thank you. I ask because I thought I read somewhere here once awhile back that something additional was needed or different.
I’m pretty well invested in this truck and don’t mind it’s grandpa like speed. From what I’ve read a regear for tires and weight bring it back to a stockish feel which is fine with me for the price. Would likely do it with a couple buddies in a weekend

Go with 5.29! That’s what I have it’s made the truck a lot more drivable.

ThAts a false statement man, regear is to get the rpms back to whether they would be stock wise. Regear will help tremendously with his camper weight. I even bet it will get it close to stock since he doesn’t have any else like bumpers and armor.

That is awesome! Had no clue the battery and other components and circuitry are even there from the first photo. Room for storage too. Good idea having spare fuses. I do in my glove compartment. Is the battery charged by the main truck battery?

not weight, dont over exceed the payload. They say weight cus the rpms will just go higher per gear. For wheels and tires yeah it helps. More gas will be used tho. Better to get a v6, more power and you’ll get better fuel economy.

I don't mind either - because I'm more than just grandpa like, I am a grandpa! But really. I think the 2.7L is great. I don't have any weight in it but pulls fine up the many hills I encounter weekdays in 4th gear where the speed limit is 50. I understand you have significant additional weight, but from what you've done and invested I think you'd be better off keeping it. I see yours is the 5MT - those a very hard to find around here, and no longer available I believe after 2018. Another big reason to keep it IMO.

Been eyeballing the ARB bumper lol but would like to probably regear first
For now I’ll charge it with a battery charger. I think I’d like to a solar panel one of these days. This way I could take it off for the winter without having to worry about any wiring running to the engine bay

Regear is great on these trucks, made mine way more drivable loaded up, and I prefer it even unloaded with an open bed. My tires are barely larger than stock.

What size are you running? I’m running 235/85/16 currently. If you know off the top of your head too all loaded down and with the larger tires what kind of rpm you run at highway speeds

I’m running the same size tires. Loaded down I don’t recall off the top of my head. Unloaded and regeared at 4.88s, roughly 3k at 70mph, loaded I can’t recall.

When I had my camper hills/mtns weren’t great, but I could keep up with most highway traffic. 5 speed helps too. This is fully loaded with extra fuel, 20+ gallons of water, gear, parts. 30k miles in this setup truck did fine, slow and steady. A full size truck would be great, but for the truck cost and still getting decent mpgs it works fine. It’ll still be a slug, but a fun one!

That's not bad - many manual transmission SUVs (like my former Subaru Forester) and some cars are factory geared like that. My stock 5MT Tacoma is 2500 rpm at 70 mph.

Awesome thanks. I’m only having some struggle on road trips passing and uphill is always 4th gear 75mph/3500rpm. Daily around town is just fine. I’ll have to consider what my rpm will be like regeared doing 75-80mph

Are you wanting drop in diffs, or are you doing regear yourself/having shop do it? Most likely you have 4.10 gears with the 2.7L, so your front diff requires thin ring gear. With drop in diffs, this doesn't matter at all, but with you DIY it will. Now if you get a front locker, just match the locker to ring gear. Let me know if you need any guidance on this, I'll be happy to help.

Planning on getting the drop in diffs from ECGS and sending my old ones in as cores. Not doing the actual gearing myself. Will I need order something additional then?

You shouldn't need anything other than the drop ins. Only small stuff is 2 tunes of rtv, preferably the green gear oil rtv to seal the rear diff and seal the front ADD tube. Drain n fill plug crush washers for front n rear diffs. Then gear oil, prob 7 quarts for initial fill, then an additional 5 for break in fill.
