There are a lot of parts on your Taco, or any other vehicle, there solely to aid in the manufacture of the vehicle. Most, we have no way of telling what Toyota, or their supplier, intended for those thousand little details.

And trust me, you would have no better luck posting it to Corporate either.

This and a lot of parts are also made at factory to be shared between other vehicles as well.

It's to hang your keys on when you go jogging. Don't lock the door and shut the hood though.

That's the elusive gas cap holder. Too bad that the holder location committee and the gas cap cord length committee did not communicate with each other.

exactly, and on another vehicle it might be where they have a clip for a wire or a hose.

My guess is maybe the old brake master cylinder had a floating sensor and the wire would clip there so it doesn’t dangle and get caught on stuff but with the truck advancing through the years, parts have become obsolete but some parts have remained on. An example is the 20 year old drums on the Tacoma.

I would be wondering more why someone would bother to pen mark a level right next to the mark embedded in the plastic. Government conspiracy?

It's a built in wiring clip for when there is a wired sensor build into master cylinder cap(s).

This is the answer. Hybrids always have this, and sequoias used to use this for their wiring harness. It's nothing special.

I'll see your TRD brake reservoir sock and raise you a non-existent engine badge:
