Hey folks, has anyone had any experience with a dealership honoring a workmanship issue when a frame was replaced under the recall warranty? My frame was replaced but I am noticing where the technician did not transfer some of the parts, fasteners, and hardware. My fender splash shields are missing, rear bump stops, some clips/bolts, and my bed is misaligned. It’s my understanding that when a Toyota dealership performs a repair, it’s warranted for workmanship for one year. I brought these issues to the dealerships attention and they said they couldn’t help me and was told I would have to pay for those items. I don’t think that’s right. The tech/dealership should be responsible for his workmanship. They act like they are doing me a favor with the frame replacement when they are being paid by Toyota to do the job under warranty. I haven’t call Toyota customer service yet and was wondering if anyone else has had an issue with a dealership honoring their “workmanship warranty”.

    This ^^^^^^^

They should make it right. Have you contacted the dealership that did the work. They may step up without corporate. Give them a chance.

Make a list of everything you find and deliver it with your complaint.

How long ago was the frame done?

Were you the owner at the time?

Did you go contact the dealer that did the frame?

Warranty is typically a year. Period.
You can contact higher up. A bump stop to you is $100 when they mark up the price. When they buy it it’s $10.

if a recall is common you may have one select technician it goes to who is good at it from doing it many times.
Or, it may pay shitty warranty time, due to the fact Toyota is known for that in general. Which is easily solved by the tech by quitting and switching to a different brand. Or different profession

or, if they don’t want to burden the tech who did it, they can have an hourly express lube tech do it, being that the task is simple and not rushed. They are supposed to have basic mechanical skills. The dealership hires them at a low rate of pay to do small maintenance because they make more money that way. By still collecting a decent amount of money for the service itself whether it be out of pocket or under a manufacturer package, while choosing a less skilled person to pay less to do it, to keep more of that money. People who can, install a bump stop.

warranty is not a favor. The frame was defective. Warranty happens regardless. Whether you have your truck or not, they still have plenty of low mileage recent model year vehicles getting all kinds of warranty shit including recalls that they can do nothing about, such as fuel tanks

Typical factory bs. The dealership is forced to accept the factory unrealistic allotted time for a warranty repair. So the dealership can either eat the excess time it takes to actually do the repair correctly or crap on the customer and not lose money.

From OP's original post sounds like it was done within the last year, hence why he is trying to get the dealer to honor their workmanship warranty (assuming it's for 1 year like OP is asking).

From the below referenced threads it sounds like he wasn't the owner at the time, however, it's unclear if the frame was replaced with the previous owner or when the dealership took possession of it after trade in. Regardless, if this is indeed the case this probably is not going to help OP's cause and may even be the sole reason the dealership is denying OP since he wasn't the owner of the truck when the frame was replaced.

As I highlighted in this earlier post, OP stated that he contacted the dealer and they more or less told him to go pound sand.

To the OP, please feel free to chime in here with more details and/or corrections as needed.

So to answer some of the questions that have popped up:
    1) I purchased the vehicle from the dealer who replaced the frame after the original owner traded it in
    2) I noticed all of the issues while I was replacing the shocks and installing the lift
    3) it has been under a year, 12/2021
    4) the dealership had possession of the truck when the frame was replaced and initiated the replacement. As the second owner, I am listed as the owner of the truck for the new frame. I verified that on the Toyota owners site
    5) Toyota has been honoring frame warranties for multiple owners so I don’t see why they would not honor the workmanship too
    6) this clearly a workmanship issue so the main question was aimed at what’s the recourse for the factory (Toyota) honoring a workmanship problem when the dealership won’t step up?
    7) the vehicle had virtually 0 miles on the frame when I bought it
    8) to replace all of the parts that were left off, it’s going to cost almost $500. I don’t think I should have to pay that out of pocket because some lazy tech was too lazy or to incompetent to switch them over. I would put them on myself but, that’s not how it works at stealerships

I am going to call Toyota customer service and find out what their position is. I’ll keep you all posted on the outcome. I wasn’t trying too start a big debate, I was just wondering if anyone has ever had the experience of another dealership “warranting another’s warranty”

Your expectations are definitely not unreasonable then.

If the dealer isn’t willing to work with you, I’d go straight to customer service like you plan.
