So i had a Alternator go bad, Replaced it all went well. Ran it belt look good to me seemed
smooth but after doing some running around and at the end of the day pulled in my garage and
noticed oil leaking like crazy and belt shredded but still attached. Some of the belt was Lodged
in the Crank pully pretty tight i got it all out. Got a new belt made sure it was lined up
ran smooth and within 20 seconds OIL Leaking/Pumping like crazy!!!!!!!! I cannot figure
out where its coming from!!!! but the belt shreds caused the problem, I cant see any lines
busted or anything but can only guess that its coming from behind the crank pulley if thats possible. Anyone have any idea? i do have pics but i would have to upload from my phone if i can.

It’s probably the timing cover oil seal. You have to pull the crank pulley off to get to it.

It’s not uncommon for this to happen when you throw the belt on these trucks.

Yep, front main seal was likely damaged from the shredded belt

And if you are wondering how to retorque the crank bolt.
It’s not hard if you have a manual transmission.. Put it in gear with the e-brake on. And crank it down.

If it’s an Automatic, we’ll it’s a bit harder. I’d probably just use an impact gun on it if I could get one in there. (No, this isn’t at all the right way to do it. It’s just an option lazy people like me might choose)

Or buy/build a tool. There should be 2 holes in the pulley. That’s where the tool goes to keep the engine from turning.

    pinstripes. lots of pinstripes.
If it's an auto, won't the flex plate still have teeth that the starter engages? Ever take the starter off and jam those on these? I've done it on the Supra when torquing the bolt but that's the old W58 five speed.

Yeah, that’s an option. But the starter is a PITA to get on and off. Especially on the 4WD trucks.

Front main seal. It happened to me after I changed the alternator the first time. My cheap ass reused the serpentine belt because it still looked good. It shredded on me and a piece of it pierced the front main seal. I had a shop replace the seal afterwards along with a new belt.

Exactly what i did, i reused the belt i thought it was lined up pefectly but it shredded. It seems like a easy for with a $8 part. Just getting that bolt loose is the problem

So its definitely the main crank seal which i picked up a new one at Autozone for $9. Watched some youtube videos seems pretty easy, that hard parts
seems to be getting that bolt to break loose! Watched a video and someone used the old belt to wrap around the crank pulley and the other pulley to the right
of it when you try to loosen the bolt the belt got tight the way he wrapped it. Anyways should i go ahead and try this operation myself? Seems pretty simple.
thanks for all the feedback by the way!

All fixed. Wish i could show pics havnt put pics on here since photobucket hopefully there is a easier way. Anyways, I got the crank bolt off by tying up rachet to frame with rachet straps, did the bump start to turn the crank and knock the bolt loose worked perfectly! Belt made its way into the crank seal and actually found piece of belt inside where the crank seal was, took it out with q-tip. put in new seal with grease on outside and greased the part of balance wheel tightened down put on new belt and seems all good. Only thing im not torqued to 180lbs. How worried should i be?
