That's cute, look the f150 lightning gets ~70 MPGe and 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. Tell Toyota to get with the times.

At least I can make back out of the woods in my Toyota…the Lightening is cute as a commuter, but for any work or back country exploring you’re screwed. No charging stations the places I like to go. Cheapest Lightening is $40K if you’re lucky, range is 230 miles at best, cut in half if you’re towing a camper. My favorite camp spot is 145 miles away…won’t even make it to camp. Go often since I am semi-retired. So I would have to buy another gas vehicle just to camping, doesn’t seem financially wise.

I agree the range while towing is a big issue, but you can absolutely go 300 miles on a single charge not towing if you opt for the bigger battery, not 230. It's a lot more off-road capable than you think, the video below is with stock tires / 100% stock truck. It would absolutely go into the woods and back out just like any f150 4x4 w/ rear locking diff. would. Unless you are taking crazy paths that would require a mid/long travel aftermarket setup, and bigger tires even for a taco. All models of the lightning come with a locking rear diff. unlike Tacoma's. 8.9 inches of ground clearance on the lightning vs 9.4 on Taco.

Then you have to pay $70K for that extra range. Can think of a hell of a lot of other things to spend that $30K on I saved by not buying the long range model. Still screwed with the 300 mile range, it will be cut in half towing a camper, perhaps even worse since it is climbing up elevation to get to camp. Say range would be reduced to 150 miles, camp is 145. I can make there…do my thing, pack up to head back home for 5 miles, then it is dead in the water. Now what, call a tow truck with a genny? Bring my own genny, and wait 8 hours to charge? Or keep my Toyota, make it there and back on one tank of gas with still having 100 miles of range left in the tank.

People are so divided on electric vehicles. I can't wait to buy one for weekdays and petrol for the weekends. I love that the F150 had a knob on the screen, super practical. I'm seriously considering one. By the time I'm ready, I hope they have all the bugs worked out. Maybe the eTaco will be in production? I'm currently getting 12-14MPG in my Taco with a front bumper, armor, roof rack, 33s and a gear load for a weekend trip. I don't believe any of these posts hahaha

Yes I agree it just doesn't have the longer range capability that an ICE has while towing just yet. That's about the only downside. Everything else it does better than an internal combustion engine. ICE's are 85% inefficient, basically massive shitty heat generators that also happen to able to move a vehicle with the remaining 15%, EU has legislated their death in Europe by 2035. Private investment in Petrol refinement will decrease YoY, gas will get more expensive as we begin to bear the true economic cost of gas and new refineries aren't opened. The EV trucks just aren't there yet with the range while towing, but they eventually will be. It's really wild to think that over 140+ years of engineering and refining the internal combustion engine, they are still so inefficient compared to relatively new EV motors.

You guys can have all these 60k and 80k electric vehicles. I'm never turning loose of my 4 cylinder Tacoma.

The Trip Summary isn't accurate. Think about it, how accurate is your Distance to Empty number? The computer is only 'estimating' these numbers.
    To get your real MPG:
Fill the tank. Zero out the trip odometer. When you need gas again, fill the tank. Divide the reading on the trip odometer by the number of gallons it took to fill the tank.

EV efficiency doesn’t really do me any good if the range is subpar.

Not even figuring in all the running around I do when I get to camp. Don’t go just to sit there, ride dirt bikes, mountain bikes, bunch of creeks, rivers and lakes in this area to swim, fish and kayak on. Head into town that doesn’t have a charging station to grab coffee, food and look at cute granola girls. It is a popular place, even if they had a charging station can’t imagine the wait time in line, the line for gas can get long…and it takes seconds to splash fuel in a vehicle.

Really want EVs to work for me, but currently they don’t. Be ok for a commuter but everything else I do, it won’t. Need a one do-it-all vehicle.

    Even generators aren’t feasible.

I have been testing pretty regularly for a few weeks now. I can't get above 14.2 average over a tank (dash computed, not adjusted for 33s). Accelerating slowly actually hurts. You have to be somewhere in the middle, too fast hurts too. The biggest factors seem to be coasting a lot longer to a stop, and keeping speeds down. Above 65 starts to hurt a lot. Funny thing is I drove a brand new rental and only got 15. I was just driving normally, but I have yet to see above 18 ever in a Tacoma over a whole tank.
