Alright folks. We're all in the same boat. Roof paint fade.
What are you gonna do about it?

I have an idea. White paint. Why?
-Classic. Pays homage to the original Toyota 4x4's. They had a white roof for sun heat rejection during daytime off roading, which they were built to do. Even the FJ Cruiser had it.

    Has anyone done this?
Is this the right thing to do?
    Or will it look stupid?

I think it will be cheaper to do, because "white" is very straightforward and simple, and you don't have to worry about paint matching it to the rest of the different body color
Maybe it could just apply to the center roof panel, and end where it reaches the valleys that the drip moulding trims go?

I've very rarely seen this done. Why don't more people do this?

I think it depends on the vehicle. On my dark blue Tacoma, it wouldn't look right to me and it would draw more awkward attention than a darker color. I started to have paint fade so I vinyl wrapped it myself. I've done it in matte black and currently it's in a dark metallic blue which is close to my stock color. When it was matte black, no one even knew it was wrapped. Same with my current blue wrap.

That said, I would prefer my vehicle lighter to keep things cooler. I probably wouldn't paint just to roof though.

A lot of people having roof issues also have hood issues, so addressing both would be ideal. I've wrapped my hood in a dry carbon vinyl look. I don't have hood paint issues and do it for other reasons.

I just found out Toyota will not repaint the roof on my 17 Barcellona Red Tacoma. The paint is just starting to lift.
My truck is parked in the winter, garaged and just rolled 30000 miles. No excuse for this happening.
The transmission is also having issues they also say is out of warranty.
I thought this was going to be my forever car, but things change. so will the ownership.

Do what makes you happy. It’s your vehicle , who cares what others think as long as you are good with it. But since you are asking, personally on most Taco colors yes a white roof looks like crap, looks stupid (but again that’s my personal opinion) Depending how old your taco is if the roof is fading meaning the clear coat is breaking down, the hood and other parts will start doing the same. May as well wait for that to start happening and then decide on a long term solution such as painting or wrapping or whatever the entire vehicle. What year is your Taco?
