Doing good! Good to see you still kicking around. How's the diamond mining going?

I just quit my job, finishing my shift and have a new job lined up working around Calgary so stoked on that. Be nice to be less of a gypsy and be home every night (although I've been working 7/7 so it hasn't been too bad). Hopefully it all works out and if not I can always rejoin the travelling circus.

In truck related news, ordered and waiting on solid motor and transmission mounts and hammer hangers with crossbar. Gonna stiffen this bitch up!

I can't wait for the hh especially as they're supposed to make the ass end less jumpy/twitchy.

That will be amazing to be close to home! Glad you found that. yeah working far from home isn't ideal so I get that.... but it's what I can do and the minings is interesting enough

7/7 is simultaneously grueling and great... hope the new gig works out..

Well diamond prices are going up because war lol so that's good forme Iguess but hey, our wages are going to start getting smaller with this inflationthey say is coming... other than that work is fine

Dude! I love my solid mounts. I think you will too. What's a hammer hanger? Whatever it is, if it stiffens things up I'm on board. Still looking for an X-brace, there was a guy parting out his truck in Calgary a while back and I wanted to buy it from him, but I didn't think I had money at the time (I probably didn't).

Let me know if you want help with the mounts, I did a writeup on the motor ones that I never posted.

You probably know this but the trans mount you should really take the crossmember out to install it. Makes it a lot easier. Also, the bolts that Bonzen supplied weren't long enough so I had to buy some other ones at HD.

Man yeah, glad to see you're around and doing your thing. What's happening with the truck then? Yeah the war is a shame on so many levels but mostly for the people over there.

Hammer hangers replace the flimsy stamped Tacoma rear leaf spring mounts. And then the cross-tube (lose the spare tire spot) stiffens up the hangers and the frame itself. The rear leaf is positioned slightly different as well so the rear end is supposed to track better and not act all sketchy like it usually does under normal driving.

    https://archivegarage.com/explore-archive/ols/products/tacoma-hammer-hangers

May need some tips on the mounts, I dunno. Havent had a look under the truck in a while to see what I'll be dealing with.

What's the ETA on the motor and transmission mounts?

Bonzen sent a message saying they were about to be painted and should ship today.

I've already got the hammer hangers too but now have to figure out the mathematical balance of work, not much free time, family and not having a back up daily driver.

I really should buy a beater fun car.

Also ordered an accusump but need to figure out some sort of timed relay dealio triggered with the ignition so I can auto start in the winter and still have it prelube properly.

Cause I'm a princess and like to get in a warm carriage on a cold winter day

That would be amazing. I would be interested in doing the same, however my truck won't start in the winter on its own without significant throttle - side effect of the camshafts.

That's great on the mounts! Looking forward to hearing your reviews. FyI the bolts Bonzen sent me were too short and I had to go to Home Despot to get some replacements.

How much throttle do you have to give on start? Just in the winter mostly?

Yeah, you mentioned the bolts earlier. They were for the trans mount? How much longer did you end up going? 1/2"?

I'll have to have some ready to go before I do the install or maybe he's sorted it out. Will buy longer bolts anyways just in case.

Yeah, only when below -20 and it's been out all night which is relatively rare. I have to give it about 50% throttle at the instant it sounds like it's starting to fire otherwise it just stalls. When it does start it backfires a whole bunch haha. I'm sure the neighbors like that.

Ah yeah I did say that before didn't I. Yes 1/2" longer should be just right. You'll need the bolts and some washers and some locking nuts and that'll do it.

Did the oil change mod, routed some fuel line from the oil filter catch drain nipple down to around where the drain plug is. Also put a chunk of radiator hose over the hose clamps at the rear of the SC where some people have had gouges wearing into the SC body.

Still waiting for motor mounts, must be stuck in customs then going through Canada post cause it's taking forever.

Still waiting for Accusump parts as well.

Have the hammer hangers but no time to install since I'll be working the next three weeks solid. Blah

Also ordered a fancy ass radar Detector since my coworker who I carpool with to site got a ticket last week. If I'm on the highway lots it'll pay for itself.

Sweet mods to come soon! Hope your mounts don't take too much longer.

Which detector did you buy? I had one a while back but it stopped working - like the cops had switched to a different system that the detector didn't pick up. Didn't get a ticket but I went past radar traps several times and the detector didn't make a peep.

Uniden R8. Spent too much $$ but it has directional sensors arrows so you can tell if the cops are behind or in front of you. Supposedly works well for the tech commonly used in Edmonton and Calgary which are apparently different.

And has filtering since blind spot sensors on cars tend to cause a lot of nuisance alerts, along with automatic building sliding doors and shit.

Should be future proof for a while at least.

Hmm sounds pretty good. I dunno if I can justify the initial cost right now... but, where did you buy yours?

    Visions online for a whopping $10 off:rofl:

It's pretty new so price is high and seems fixed anywhere you can get it. Only small handful of sellers in Canada. It'll probably price drop in six months.

Well, I spent the day in the trenches battling the install of Solid Offroad motor and trans mounts. Was a fun job right up there with the header install (that involved chasing threads with a tap and installing ARP studs) while under the truck.

    Random tips/procedure:

    • Jacked up front of truck and placed on jackstands
    • Removed wheels and mud shields
    • Loosened front diff so it could drop down a bit
    • Loosened trans mounts bolts
    • Jacked up trans slightly with trans jack
    • Put pressure with other jack on the oil pan with blocks of wood and some foam rubber to support it
    • Removed starter cable and ground and alternator ground and moved the cable bundle out of the way.
    • Loosened whatever I could on the motor mounts. A 3/8 swivel head ratchet was the MVP tool. Also used every combination of shallow/deep sockets, various extensions up to 2' (some bolts you could tighten/loosen from the wheel well), combi wrenches/ratchet wrenches, etc.
    • Removed the old mounts, placed the split apart Solid mounts in and loosely bolted. Adjusted both jacks as needed until I could get the through bolt joining the halves in place and tightened everything up.

Trans mount was a more basic affair.

Good work. Yeah - I used an engine hoist instead of pushing on the oil pan - you go more balls than I do to lift with the pan....

I figured if I braced the tiny pan evenly and lifted the trans as well to ease the load it would work out. Bit of a gamble but I think quite a few others have done the job just jacking the pan alone and most making it unscathed. Seems sketchy to me though hahaha
