I made an oops today. Backed into a random low concrete post in my 2021 Tacoma with only 10,000 miles.

The bumper caps and underlying pieces I will fix myself. But also picked up some scratches on the rear bed panel. Do you all recommend touching this up myself, or bringing to a body shop? Touch up will obviously be imperfect, but worried about a body shop doing a seemingly good job only to get premature fading, bubbling, etc. And of course, body shop cost.

    Thank you!

bodywork is so expensive these days.

check with one of those hammerless guys. And TU paint.

I was quoted 1200 for a paint scrape on my DS door...I just shined it on.

With a camera and a proximity sensor we can still hit a pole...Not knocking your driving.

Just marveling at all this tech, that sometimes leaves people hanging.

Some of that, the white stuff, looks like paint transfer from the post. Use some rubbing compound and see how much comes off. If that all comes off then I would leave it alone. The couple of dents there will not be that noticeable.

Clean the paint....touch it up with the OEM matching paint color...and fix the bumper. Got to admit that damn bumper is totally worthless being plastic.

 Fair point. I was on the trail navigating around some off road motorcyclists and there was a single, random 2 and a half foot tall post in a wide open 4 way path. Reversed into it while actively looking in my mirrors. Just couldn't see it from the angle I was in, wasn't expecting it in an empty field, and backup sensors were off as I was in the woods. But I take fault. Life happens.

Amusingly the post was pretty beat up, you could see this has happened to a ton of people before me. Not sure if that makes me feel better?? lol

Going to try a combo of all your suggestions. 1st step will be cleaning it off and rubbing compound to determine extent of damage and next steps. And maybe that will help me get a more reasonable quote. Will post update pics and go from there.

Dumb question, or maybe not... Do you all recommend washing it first before applying compound or using some other solvent? I'm guessing this may have scraped through paint down to metal and don't want to induce rust with water.

Clean up and cleverly wrap it with black textured wrap (both sides). I would definitely do that instead of an expensive fix.

I would wipe it down with a damp cloth first. That should get rid of the larger debris that could cause further scratching when you use the compound.
