What’s up Taco world !!! My first thread. Does anyone know how to deactivate the spare tire sensor? I’ve searched the web and can’t find anything. I put new wheels and and tires on my truck and my spare tire is now useless. I removed the spare, forgetting about the sensor… my light is now on…. Any thoughts?

Do you have the display that allows you to scroll right to the tire pressure display?

Have you made sure the tires are properly inflated and the right "minimum" tire pressure setting is set?

So I checked it out….. it’s not reading tire pressure… just lines going across all four tires. I did have sensors put in my new wheels, and my mechanic said he programmed them

Our 3rd Gen truck have a different TPMS system than other Toyotas as the system is controlled by a PCM/ECU.

If you got cloned sensors, follow the OM directions for the TPMS button by your left knee.

If the new sensors have new ID#s and they have been programmed correctly, the system can take a while to see the sensors.

No tire pressure on spare tire.
Is the tire warning light blinking for few seconds and stops? if so, they damaged one or more sensors.

My trucks TPMS works just fine but they will be all dashes for a bit when you first start or drive the truck. Leave that screen up that shows the pressures and then drive around for a bit. If they don't show the pressures after a few miles and the TPMS light stays on then I'd start to investigate.

One thing to note though that some people don't realize is if the TPMS light flashes for 2 minutes straight when you first turn the truck on then that means 1 or more sensors is faulty, which could mean damaged, or dead battery. Then you use a tool to scan each sensor to find the unresponsive sensor.

If you recently paid a tire shop to install wheels\tires\sensors then it's safe to assume that you can go back to that shop and have them take a look and it shouldn't cost you anything extra.

I drove my truck for a few days before removing the spare. My light did flash for a bit, But like I said earlier it only did that once I removed my spare tire.
