Deadened—absolutely!! I went stupid with my install, floor, back wall, doors and roof. But definitely worth every hour.

I have JBL GTO629 for back doors and GTO939 for front doors with a 450 watt LUNAR amp on them. They have been great!

    https://ca.jbl.com/GTO939_.html
LUNAR amps are hand made and very hard to find

I also have 2 DC Sounds Lab M3-8 Subs on a Skar 2500 that hit very hard

    https://www.skaraudio.com/products/skv2-2500-1d-monoblock-subwoofer-car-amplifier

    and Autotek crossover
    https://autotekcaraudio.com/shop/mobile/mobile-accessories/atk2-3x-crossover/

The best sub setups I have seen in Tacomas are either 6 DD 6.5" or mine (which is the only one) 2 DC M3-8's

A local guy designs the boxes

Do the speakers themselves have decent bass?

This is my current speaker set up and it can not handle my amp and headunit output.

I use them as mid's. I don't feed them anything below 200Hz, but I can throw a few hundred watts at them and they do great.

    Do you have a sub?

To be completely honest, with Tacoma's the easiest thing to do is rip out all the OEM speakers and cut and seal off all the wires and start from scratch. It's really not that hard. Run a power wire from the battery, use the OEM remote wire, run a new ground. Then run 3 RCA wires from your head unit to under your back seat. Now your done with the head unit. Next run two 0ga OFC power wires from the battery to under your rear seats. Next run heavy gauge speaker wires from each door to under you back seat. Hook the 3 RCA wires from your head unit to your active crossover. Install your sub amp, and either two more amps for front and back or one big 4 channel amp for door speakers. Run RCA cables from the active crossover to each of your amps. Connect door speaker wires to your small amps. Hook your sub amp up to your subs. Done! Sounds like a lot, but it's really the quickest and best way.

As far as subs .. there are a ton of options and depends on what your goal is and budget. If you want teeth rattle bass you will spend min $600 on speakers. The only speakers we have found that can handle a few thousand watts and fit and perform in the air space available is Either four 6.5in DD subs or two Sound Labs DC 8" subs. (I've heard Sundown's will work also, but no first hand experience) A custom box to get 3 to 4 cu ft of air space and still fit behind your backseat probably another $600-$1,000 depending on the finish you want on the box.

And obviously do the "big 3 upgrade". Several how-to's on that.

Trying to piecemeal using any of the OEM equipment or wiring is just going to cost more money and time later. Trust me, in the 17 years I've owned my Tacoma I have totally scratched and ripped out and started over my audio/video system more times than I can count, lol
