265 or 285?

I have a 2021 Off Road. I just had the TRD Lift Kit Suspension installed. I would like upgrade the tires/wheels. I am looking to see if 285 will fit now that I have the lift? Should I use 265?

 

It’s the width of 285s and not the height. You will need to do CMC and some trimming.

You can always do 255/80/17 or 255/85/16 which is a true 33”, no trimming required.

Go with the 285s. If you get a 0 offset wheel you will have very minimal rubbing. I have 285s on the stock OR wheels with a 1.25 spacer. It needed some good trimming and cutting for off roading.

 

If you only mallcrawl, then they will sorta fit. If you wheel and fully stuff the suspension with the steering turned, then the fit is no different than any other tire. You'll need to do the typical mods.

 

Can vouch. If you don't want to do any modifications to your fender area, go 255/85/R16 (skinny 33)

I run mud flaps even, with 1.25" spacers, and I have no rubbing. Caster is set forward due to modified lift components.

Source: Got a lift, wanted to look more badass than my 265s could provide so went up to 285s and look more badasser but even after a CMC and trimming I still rub and it's a PITA and a headache.

This is so great everyone! Thank you! I use this truck as my daily work vehicle. I am taking my first trip to out west from KY to CO this August, and wanted to be ready. No rock crawling, just trails and some off-road.

 

The way gas prices are, the smaller the better. I love the looks of larger tires on these trucks, but gas mileage is abysmal even with the stock tires. If you have a disposable income, by all means, do whatever you like. I’m staying with stock tires the way things are these days.

 

Less issues with 265, no recalibrating the speedometer, no rubbing, no cutting, no decreased power, no regear, no poor gas mileage, pleanty of power when you save the money and use it for a KDMAX Pro tune, and still look like a little bad ass. You can still go anywhere you want even with 265s, plus no excessive wear and tear on the truck. I run 265s and just don't want the aggervation!

 

I have a total of 3” of lift and still went with 265x75/R16. Was more concerned with ground clearance and didn’t want to deal with rubbing or chopping the cab mounts.

 

IF they are all terrain tires.

 

If you get adjustable UCAs and get it aligned by someone who really knows how to do an off road alignment on modified IFS 4x4s 285s are headache free and do great off road. I’m running a 2.5” Ironman Foam Cell Pro lift and SPC UCAs with 285/75/16 KO2s. No cutting, no rubbing and I’m no mall crawler.

All that said I see the benefit of 255/85s and plan to try some next time I need tires, as a Land Rover guy in remission I can’t resist a good pizza cutter(remission because I don’t currently own a stupid old Land Rover that breaks all the time but I know it won’t last. It’s only been two months since I sold my clapped out Range Rover Classic and I’ve already found myself admiring Discoveries on Craigslist).

I do still maintain that given the pitiful selection and availability of 255/85 tires if you can’t get your hands on 255s that fit your needs on an off road oriented truck with a lift 285s will do better than 265s

Any reason for skipping over a few tire sizes in between? In my opinion, the 265/70 17 fits this truck perfect. I went and got a size bigger but I'll be going back.

 

I’m on my second set of 285’s. First set was 285/70/16 and current set are 285/65/17. No rubbing, no CMC and stock mud flaps.
