My truck is a 2015 Access Cab 4Cyl /5 Speed Manual. 50k Miles. Very well taken care of. I brought it in for the service recall for the frame CRC application.

I'm going to try and make this a short story... Unfortunately, I didn't inspect the work when I picked the truck up but only when I got home.. The product they applied appears to have been done in a very sloppy manner. It's on the side steps, the mud flaps, the brake lines, the gas tank etc. It's like the person doing the job wiped the stuff off their hands onto the various parts under the truck. The places where it is on the frame is unevenly applied and doesn't look right. It's globbed on places it doesn't need to be and it isn't where it should be. These are some pictures I took the same day.. So I'm wondering what it looks like to you all

I personally wouldn’t do anything. Wouldn’t even waste my time calling them.

If I didn’t value my time (and thought it would make a difference).
I would call and tell them that the job looks like it was poorly done.
And that I have no intentions of coming back to such a place that does that type work.
Then thank them for at least doing “something” and hang up.

After all, some of us didn’t even get the CRC.
    At least you got “something”.

I don't see a problem with it. You got something for free on a truck that is outside its warranty window, pretty decent deal already. If you're mechanically inclined you should take a wire wheel to the visible rust, paint over the metal once clean and apply fluid film or similar to the rest of the frame.

That honestly looks like shit. I got mine “injected” into the frame and they’re supposed to put plug holes in specific spots of it so that it doesn’t leak out. The application now shouldn’t even be noticeable on the outside of the frame.

It doesn’t matter if it was free, it should have been done correctly. That’s like telling someone they shouldn’t bitch because they didn’t change the oil filter when you had free services before it hit 25k miles.

If you're not happy with it, contact the dealer's service dept manager and speak to him/her.

Only you can decide what you want to do, and how far you are willing to go with it. It's your truck and your money invested in it. I understand why you are askjng, but what someone else would do is kind of irrelevant. It won't be use living with the decision.

I understand it's my call. I'm kinda interested in what others see in the pictures. To me it looks like crap and it doesn't look like it was done right. So I'm more curious as to whether the job itself wasn't done right or if it's just some stuff I can clean up and leave it at that. I'm leaning towards having it checked out again because usually when someone works so sloppily, the job isn't done right as well.

Here’s the best I can do as far as if it was done right.

It looks really sloppy but at the same time people don't usually see under the truck and you got something done for free that they shouldn't even be doing IMO. You know it's not a Toyota only issue when they specifically only do this to states that pour salt all over their roadways, and all vehicles in those conditions rust out. Toyota was nice enough to offer to fix a problem for free that really isn't their problem....

My inclination would be to take it to a different dealer for confirmation that this job is either (a) acceptable; or (b) not acceptable. If 'a', then you're done; if 'b' take that information and go back to the dealer who performed the work and inform them. Yes, it takes time, but ignoring a problem is NEVER the correct approach. To me that looks like it was done by the oil-change bay clean-up boy last thing on the Friday afternoon before a long weekend.

agree with @tirediron looks like someone rushed through the process. As clean as your truck is, I would take it to another dealer and just like he said, ask if it was done properly. You should have plugs installed, they can tell you if it was done correctly. Mine looked nothing like that, and I dont trust my dealer to do anything, but we have only one within 3 hours of me...so what choice did I have..and again, for as bad as they are, mine looked better than yours.

I wish I could take it to another dealership. But it's even further away from me than the one who did the poor work. Apparently not all dealerships have the equipment to perform this service. So to get another dealership to just "look" at it and give me an "honest" appraisal seems a steep hill to climb while it would also take me 2 hours round trip plus gas and tolls for just a" look see" seems a bit harsh for me to absorb.

I filed a complaint with corporate. If corporate is paying millions to get this done, it must be critical. I am expecting and I deserve to have this service performed exactly to the TSB specs to protect my purchase.

If they're tech is slapping this stuff on, and halfnof it is on the wrong spot, then the job itself must be poorly done at best and not done properly at worst.

Not having this service done properly and then suffering a failure of the frame somewhere down the line can result in a very expensive lawsuit for Toyota. Especially if the service was done improperly, documented as such, and then not corrected.

I am hoping that by making the corporate office aware of the deficiency in the service application, an appropriate remedy will be made.

It's just ridiculous that this stuff is spread on the gas tank and missing from locations where there are obvious welds with surface rust ON THE FRAME!!

    I will keep updating.

Thank you for the actual TSB.!!!! I will be studying it.

Did you complain to corporate before even knowing what the standards for application were? Just because you think it looks sloppy does not mean it wasn't applied properly. The CRC is not applied to the exterior of the frame where you see surface rust in your pictures, it is applied to the interior of the frame where water and debris collects and promotes rust.

Just leave it, it may look bad but the truth is that the more gross looking shmu is under there the less rust you will have.

Did you at least call the dealer and ask about it before filing a complaint with corporate?
