I'm looking for advice on an issue that I'm having with Toyota Canada, I ordered the part PT946-35200-02, it's the TRD Pro Alloy wheel for 2020 - 2022 from a dealer. The dealer called me a few days later telling me that Toyota wouldn't release the part unless I have a damaged one with a work order to replace it.

So I talked to someone at Toyota proper and they told me that they have the part, but don't wish to sell it to me, since they may need to have some in stock in the event that they need to replace any ones that are damaged.

I can't say I have ever heard of this done before, usually, they will sell anyone the last part that they have, and just order more from the factory and make the next person wait for the part that may need it.

That's all, they just said no. What are some thoughts on how to handle this?

Order from a different dealer online. Just google the part number and you'll get plenty of hits. The end.

Buy one online from one of the many Toyota parts dealers.

This has been posted before for the reason that you noted. The typical fix was to try other dealers or get a VIN from a Pro and use that to order with.

Deng, that is crazy. Yeah, I would just search up different dealers online. They all have different deals and different rules because of the GM.

I tried a brick-and-mortar dealer and one of the online ones too. They both had the same comment from Toyota. The real burn is I own a TRD Pro taco. It's Toyota making the call, and they won't budge on this one.

I'll try another dealer, and see if I can get it. Never had this problem before, only if the part is out of production that I was told I can't have a part.

Give it some time for this supply crunch to free up? That last time this came up, it was during a new model year introduction when parts supplies were just building up.

Tell them that they lost your business & you want a full refund. Call your bank & tell them you want a stop on that payment. Post on Google or other sites that they took advantage of you. You put in the time, paid for the part & now they get it keep it?!! Fuck that - give them a bad review once you get your $$ back. That’s bad business - I understand why, but yea that’s bad business.

    Then buy it somewhere else

Hahaha, overreact much? I don't see anywhere that the OP said Toyota took his money, kept the part and refused to refund him. Nothing wrong with a business declining to sell a part they would prefer to keep in stock.

I have heard from dealers that some of the Pros were shipping to Canada on steelies from Mexico and then waiting at the port for Wheels when they became available. So if this is actually true then I can see why they wouldn't sell or make these wheels available due to shortages.

Why would they care if they sold it to you vs someone else. Money is money. Sounds dumb to me

Toyota did this a couple years ago with the faux bead lock wheels. I tried to by some but was told the same thing. Unfortunately, Toyota dealers online will probably say the same thing. I think its weird this is so common with wheels.

It's not the dealer. Seems when dealer tries to order these wheels from Corporate and they refuse to release them.

    Sell the truck.

I saw a pre owned Pro at a dealership a few years ago. With aftermarket rims, of course the price was still outrageous. I wouldn't touch a vehicle that was supposed to have model specific wheels with the wheels absent. Unless it was a good price, and the wheels are available for purchase.

    Oh look, another mod....

    1) Nobody has to sell you anything. Every business has the right to refuse service. They don't even have to have a reason.

    2) Supply chain shortages are so bad that many dealerships are holding all of their parts for customers that actually get work done in their shop. They don't want to sell you a part so you can install it yourself.

    3) Never buy parts from Dealerships. 9 times out of 10, they are over priced.

Ford did the exact same thing with first gen raptors when they were first sold. I think this also happened with Pros at first. Not the craziest thing I've heard.

Whether its part supply issue or wanting to steer people towards higher trims for these wheels, thats Toyota's decision unfortunately. Might try one or two other places as well. But this could be how the cookie crumbles:notsure:

I suspect we will see more of this in the future. I spent a few months considering buying LED headlights. During that time I checked prices on several sites hoping to find a sale. Two sites that were selling them stopped offering them. I worried this sort of thing was happening due to supply shortages so I went ahead and placed an order for them.

I wonder how the Predator XP package works if you need a replacement wheel. Those came with the early Pro wheels with the gloss finish. I could be wrong, but I believe it's a Gulf States Toyota distributor package, and not a Toyota package. GST obviously sources the wheels from Toyota fod the package, there are probably more of those wheels in inventory than the 20-21 wheels.
