    My rigs a 2.7l 4x4 w/ a manual.

But if I wanted to replace engine would I have to stick to that particular drivetrain combination or can I just buy a motor and it bolt to any 05-15 tacoma transfer case/transmission?

Just curious. End goal would be to supercharge the 2.7

05-15 2.7s should all be the same, only difference is autos don't have a pilot bearing installed for the trans but 2wd and 4wd should be the same. The only thing I can think of that may be different between 2wd and 4wd is the oil pan but I'm not sure on that.

Yes, every regular cab 4x4 truck has a 2.7. (Unless you find a rare 1st Gen with the 3.4)

yes you’ll need an r155f trans and a 2nd gen transfer case VF2BM from an 6 cyl automatic Tacoma OR 4 cylinder 5 speed 4x4 Tacoma with the 23 spline input

Or a v6 FJ cruiser automatic tcase VF2A.

Any 2tr from 05-15 will work. Like mentioned above, if you get a motor from an auto, you will just need to swap the flex plate for a flywheel and clutch and install a pilot bearing, and you’ll be in business.

It has been done but it would likely be cheaper to sell the 4cyl truck and buy a v6 truck, the engine harness, transmission, I believe transfer case, and PCM at a minimum would have to be swapped from the donor truck on top of other modifications that would likely need to be done.

Damn. Cheaper to sell my rig and buy another one lol? I mean what are we lookin at here? 3 grand? Maybe 4?

cause supercharging a new 2.7 gona cost at least that, plus the cost of engine. I could s/c the engine I have but it would probly need a rebuild at 285k

Your probably better off talking to someone that has done it, IMO swapping to different engines/transmissions ends up being nothing but a constant headache with getting everything to work correctly and running into unforseen things that don't match up. Not to mention getting help if any electrical problems arise due to the wiring often not matching factory diagrams.

@Jimmyh might have an opinion on this? :anonymous:

Anyhow, I agree with Dm93. It’s would be far easier to find an Access Cab with 4.0.
