One doesn't "order" a Toyota. A dealer gets an allocation that may or may not match what you want... Toyota simply gives dealers cars and tells them, "Find some buyers for these cars..." and they do. If you don't want what they have, someone else may want it, and the dealer did their job. You *could* be waiting months for the exact truck you want...

Now the port options / dealer add-ons are a completely different issue that can be discussed ad-nauseum...

MSRP OTD on a Tacoma has always been a pretty okay deal. You could get better, but it’s been mostly “meh”, they’ve never really had any wiggle room on them since they always sell like hotcakes.

For reference I bought a 2020 in Dec 2019 (nailed it!) for 36k + tax up in Rhode Island. Can’t remember what OTD was but I paid a shade under MSRP for a new MY Tacoma….that was enough of a deal for me, considering all the comps were about the same. Not going to spend hours over 50$.

Life advice - I wouldn’t spend for a 50k truck with that job at 21, seriously. Pile EVERYTHING you can into retirement and investments NOW, and let time play it out (“now” ignoring the current market conditions being lower, but always “now” when you’re 21!). I front loaded my retirement starting at 22, and in doing so - now, if I just straight up STOPPED contributing to my 401k, I can retire at 65 VERY comfortably (but also don’t plan to stop).

It ain’t as flashy, but delay the taco for investments that early in your life, that’s my advice. Get a bitchin’ geo metro in the meantime

In California? Ask the guy in the back of Ted Striker's cab...

You can thank Proposition 13 back in 1978, which capped Real Estate taxes based on the purchase price (not the value) and capped the increase at 2% per year. It's good for long-timers (especially if you bought that Santa Monica beachfront home for $50k in 1975), but new-comers will always pay more for a similarly valued house. So why not vote to screw your neighbor?

I agree. I've been investing in the 401k since it was offered back in 1995... The one thing you can't get back is time, and those extra years make a BIG difference.

Call it what you like. You can tell a dealer what you want. Eventually it will be produced. The Tacoma brochure is in essence a menu. Certain menu items are harder to get.

I paid a painful 51k after tax, tag, title, doc fees, etc.

It had a bunch of extras I didn't want at the time but could not remove, plus a 4k market adjustment (negotiated down from 5k).

I know some people are screaming "dont pay above msrp", but double cab LONG BED trd offroads in lunar rock are kinda hard to find over here.

Lately they have been delivering white or silver-grey and no long beds.

If I am spending this much money and getting shitty mileage, I want to at least love the truck and get exactly what I want.

It took a month of searching to find one that wasn't already sold before it was built, and it was headed to VA.

Had to fly over and then drive it 16hrs back once it finally arrived.

    TOTALLY WORTH IT

I love everything about the truck. So happy I didn't settle on a short bed or a different color.

No regrets at all. Still no offroad long beds at any local dealers, they are only getting 2WD sport models.

My only advice is get the exact truck you want even if it costs a little more.

I think you're getting robbed, but I bought in 2018.

When did Tacomaworld turn into a bunch of curmudgeonly dads? Is the Tacoma a boomer truck now? Should they bring back old man tan?
