Looked at that option as well, I wished they had offered an HD radio, and the newer module for the XM radio so you could get the album art. The Stinger is definitely a great look on the dash, I I am getting really used to the floating head unit on the Kenwood, the image on the screen is extraordinary.

I wasn't too concerned with HD radio as I usually run my ipod or Spotify. There's an XM module that gives album art? really? I got the SVX300AZV1. It works perfectly minus the album art. It is a little odd with a big white square showing SXM.

I have this adapter with Pioneer HU. I guess it is true that the culprit with bad call quality is Apple CarPlay. Even with Kenwood HU. If you Google Apple Carplay call quality you'll find in Apple discussions that this problem even occurs with OEM HU. Unless you're only connected via normal Bluetooth calls and NOT wired/wireless Carplay. I heard Android Auto users doesn't have this problem. My GF is using AA with her 22' 4Runner and the calls were clear. Also, my call quality doesn't improve with the Pioneer mic. I'm just glad to get rid of the "MIC" with this adapter. The text to speech works well though...

    Hi all! 1st post :)

I've been researching on integrating the factory mic with an aftermarket Kenwood 1007 in a 2022 Taco. I think this is exactly what I am looking for and am crossing my fingers someone here would be willing to pass theirs along to a new home where it would actually be loved and cared for :). If anyone has an extra laying around, please shoot me a pm, paypal standing by. I'm located in SE Michigan if that makes a difference.

Anyone have some pics of the 2020+ setup that was sent out? Preferably of the harness itself and the pins it lines up with in the factory harness. This would be w/ the SOS button, pretty pretty pretty please.

Tried getting a hold of @WickedAx , but I'm thinking he may be burned out on this project, so not really responding.

Are you just wanting to know what wires were spliced into on the 2020+ harness so you can hard splice on yours?

I’d like to figure this out as well. I have a 2021 and I swapped the radio already. I reached out to Tombit to be a tester but no reply, guessing he’s done with this project. I’d like to get the little module at least but I also don’t know the wiring needed to be spliced into, though I do have access to ALLDATA and if someone could tell me what wires were spliced on a 16-19, I could probably correspond those to the necessary to be tapped wires on the 20+.

Exactly, I have the 2016-2019 adapter which doesn’t fit my 2022. In my truck, I have the SOS button up top, but I declined Toyota connected services, so it’s basically a dead button.

Reading some of Tom’s responses a few pages back when he was moving into beta testing his new design he mentioned that trucks with the sos button the mic was powered by the button itself so 5v was not being provided by the head unit. I think that could simplify things. (Link: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-tacoma-oem-mic-adapter.714665/page-5#post-25705032)

@BLtheP I think what is here is MIC + (?), MIC - (?)and then 5v, stepping down from 12v (?) I haven't opened the box to see what they are soldered to.

In this post he mentioned he finalized "PCB Design" for the 2020+, so it seems some sort of adaption may still be needed: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-tacoma-oem-mic-adapter.714665/page-7#post-25880370

@Hideki posted some pretty good info when it comes to what the leads (may) be in use: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-tacoma-oem-mic-adapter.714665/page-6#post-25738167 , interestingly enough the adapter I have only feeds 3 x wires into the harness.

Yeah maybe the 2020+ mic is different or something? I honestly don’t know. I do know that my current mic is not staying put where I wanted it and I don’t like it where it is already either. I wish the support for the tombit was still here. Hopeful it comes back. Seemed like 2020s were testing and working fine, so I’m curious why it all stopped. Worst case I guess I end up moving my aftermarket mic from where I put it at the gauge cluster up to the headliner where it’s more visible but less likely to fall. If the 2020 PCB is different from the 2019, and I can only find folks selling 2019s and the support for 2020 is gone, then I don’t have too many options.

I am also interested in the 1007 kenwood you’re using. I had my old DMX957XR left over from my frontier which I used and really like but man a large screen would be nice. Have you figured out how to adapt it to the dash? I’m not sure if there are kits for that size or what, I do know that the TOYK kit I used worked quite well but not sure it would be proper for the big unit. I am wanting a large screen with a volume knob and that doesn’t block my AC vents.

The install went fine, outside of not having a mic hooked up atm! It was pretty easy, I used a metra dash kit for double din (99-8251B), I installed all iDatalink interfaces (Maestro RR2, Maestro RT03 Harness, Maestro ST02 Antenna Adapters, and Maestro UT03 USB adapter). You will need an Antenna adapter for AM/FM/HD radio (Metra 40-LX11).

I’ve had this dash kit for sale on eBay for forever. I’ll happily give it to you for free if you pay shipping. @BLtheP

Follow-up Tombit proved to have difficulties on apple car play phone call, removed the device, and ran the supplied microphone to the gauge cluster.

So it has been confirmed the issue is more with Apple Carplay not working nicely with the OEM mic or just mics in general?

I use AA, which appears to work with the tombit adapter.

Yes. This MIC adapter does NOT "CarPlay" well when making phone calls. Especially Pioneer HU. I've had mine for awhile. I kept it because, I got rid of the Pioneer mic and siri eyes free/text to speech works well. I don't think OEM HU (No mic adapter) with CarPlay has problem.
