I am green as can be when it comes to car audio and read as much as I can and probably aggravate everyone to death asking questions but from what I’ve read the OEM Audio plus 6x9’s for the front doors and the rear 6 1/2’s in the rear doors are 2 ohm so this means if you was Not using a Amp they should be just a little bit louder than any 4 ohm speaker getting the same power from what I have read.

Do you have the JBL system in your truck? If so, no, it won’t be “a bit louder”. If no, yes it should be a bit louder. At volume, also distorted and easily able to burn out the amp chip in your headunit.

If staying with stock head unit and no amp, stick with the same rated ohms rated speakers.

Well OEM Audio Plus told me just the Speaker package upgrade would work fine and no mine does not have the JBL system in it. It is the premium Entune unit. There are guys reviewing just the OEM Audio Speakers on YouTube with the same head unit I have.

On their specs they say 2 ohms. For their door speakers. In fact if you can’t afford to buy the reference 500 package they recommend buying the speakers first and installing them until you can buy the rest of it. Just the speakers are listed on their website for $600.00

Knight wheels is the guys name on YouTube. He installed the amp and sub first but then unhooked the amp and sub after he installed the Speakers to compare it

I’m in no way arguing the point. I’m just telling you guys what they told me and what the guy done on YouTube. Like I said I’m in the learning phase of all this.

Over any length of time, using speakers that weren’t designed for a given headunit WILL tax that headunits’ ability to function properly. I’m not saying install the speakers and BANG!!, headunit dies. I’m saying that the extra heat generated by the amp chip in the headunit will drastically reduce the life expectancy of the stock headunit, which is already prone to fail at the heatsink/cold solder on the amp chip. For a year or so, don’t crank it until you get the OEM+ amp, that shouldn’t damage too much.

Thanks!!! That’s exactly the kind of information that I need to learn. I’m glad you told me because that will light a fire under me to get the right complete setup if I do buy their speakers first. In fact I havnt bought their speakers yet I’m on the verge of doing something and was leaning that way.

What I should do probably is get a kicker key amp solder a harness up and put a decent set of components in the doors. Probably be way cheaper. I just got custody of my Grandaughter and I’m not as free to spend those dollars like I use to. That little girl is the most important thing I gotta look out for her.

Good to hear the priorities are there. Your granddaughter is lucky she has good grandparents. Asking is how we learn, no shame in it. Good luck with the future.:fingerscrossed:

ahhh, just get new tweeters or a set of 6x9 components for dash tweets/front doors from Crutch. The back doors power is weak

The only thing I have done was get the Suburu Tweeters made by Kicker that was supposed to b a upgrade. Now I’m on the threshold of doing the next thing but the thing is. I will barely be able to afford a amp and it will take time to do a complete build. That why I’m always on here reading and getting everyone’s opinion. I thought maybe save a little and get JBL Stadium or Infinity Kappa’s or Alpine makes a component 6x9 that’s around $350.00 R-Series and maybe later do the focal Impulse 4.320 or Kicker Key Then put a sub in to finish it up. I thought about just waiting and watching for sales??? Or there’s the OEM Audio Plus.?!?!

I’m with @pochoboy . Save for the amp and components. The only real benefit to OEM+ that I see is the ability to use factory wiring. If you don’t want to mess with an amp and running your own wire, that’d be the reason. If you are willing to give it a try, the upgrade will be worth the wait.
