I suspect it simply cuts down on complications. Anytime you can reduce the number of configurations at a plant you can make it more efficient. Both Mexican plants are of the newer breed of plants.....smaller, more efficient with lots of hands on assembly....much like the Lexus ES line at TMMK. So it probably increases efficiency. Toyota employed the same philosophy several years ago when SIA (Subaru Indiana) produced Camrys. They were all 4 cylinder, LE grades, while TMMK handled the LEs and all the higher end trims as well as the Hybrids.

And I don't see the Baja plant going anywhere. They have too much experience in truck assembly. And even with the push towards fewer ICE powered vehicles at some point in the future....there will still be a need for trucks. Someone will have to produce them. I think the Mexican plants are here to stay.....as are all of Toyota's N. American plants. It's an absolute rarity for The Big T to close a plant. They will simply reinvest and find ways to make them productive and efficient.

Makes perfect sense. My wife is a manufacturing engineer and had a similar response. It’s better so focus on a few trim models and get really, really good at them than to have both plants do everything.

Hayzus Kristo can you ladies bury the hatchet already? We all are different knuckle draggers (when viewed from the outsiders point of view) but we all should realize that dick measuring contests were performed whilst your significant other was sizing you up. It isn’t as glamorous now online as you’se would imagine.
