2020 V6 Tacoma with 65K miles.. So I was driving to work the other day with no issues, then all the sudden check engine light came on and truck went into "limp mode". Checked water temp gage and it was right in the middle as normal and pulled off to side of road. got out to see my coolant reservoir boiling and over flowing.. then saw vapor coming from tail pipe. Open oil fill cap and vapor coming out there too. Confirmed oil level was good, but could tell oil got hot... Got it towed to a mechanic who later called and said I need to take it to Toyota dealership because it looks like I have sever engine damage. Called Toyota and found out that this could happen if thermostat or other valves failed... Powertrain warranty ran out at 60K miles.... Have you guys ever seen anything like this?? I'm getting it towed to Toyota Boerne tomorrow for further inspection, but for the company that created the Poke yoke (autonomous error proofing) I would think they would have designed in a fail safe for this type of system failure. Hoping my motor isn't blown :( ....

Update: sounded like a quite pop then went into blown motor / cracked block mode…2E95EA19-01C1-410C-A95E-14AA0E1DEA25.jpgA9213915-7E49-41A4-B4AE-FDE3F6BE7F64.jpg

Sorry man. Steam from the oil cap is never a good sign. That has to stay dry.
64000 miles, Toyota may, and I mean may handle it.

I got them to re-ring a 4cyl camry with 239,000 but it had lost a quart of oil every change since new.
They were actually pleasant to deal with, and seemed interested in helping.

I'd say the odds are better than 50/50 that Toyota will take care of you.

Good luck to you. I hope it was something that can be fixed quickly and cheaply. No way that a Toyota Tacoma can have major engine failure at 65K. Keep us posted!

I’d be curious as to why the temp gauge stayed in the middle, that’s a problem if it never moved.

3.5's are dropping like flies! Wish the best for you OP. Can't believe a 2020 year truck would fail like that.

There are none because those issues are not common. There are a lot of 3rd gens on the road, no vehicle is perfect so these things will happen.
