Yeah. This is the last time I use the steelit. Not impressed. The Seymour weldable primer however is very good. Handles the heat well, and will help protect the back side that can't be reached decently until I can get some paint of CorrosionX back there. The main reason that I painted some of the areas was that the weather was forecasting rain, and I didn't want to have rust forming every where. Since all of my work is in the elements. Unfortunately.

I laughed when I saw it was weldable. I'm like sure. Whatever you say. But it does have good corrosion protection. I watched a YouTube video where a guy compared corrosion rates for several different spray paints and that one was the best of the ones he tried. Although I'm open to others that might be even better.

 

What about steel it? I have actually welded through it and I was extremely impressed

That had to cost a pretty penny!

It kind of reminds me of that plastidip spray. By the way that it was peeling off in some areas. Due to its polyurethane.

 

If you read the surface prep instructions it needs a roughened surface ie: bead blasted for mechanical adhesion. I know guys that use it in shops and they always at a minimum will DA sand the bare metal to scuff it up first. My personal preference is to always use a self etching primer on any bare metal, seals the bare metal and provides a better surface for a top coat.

 

Tor, I seem to remember you sharing some " big 3 " wiring tips years ago but I can't seem to find it now. Even with a new 250A alternator I seem to hover around 13.6 volts so I'm thinking I need to replace / upgrade my power and ground mains ?

 

It may work differently with a weldable primer and then it on top. My slap it together attitude because it is my truck, and fighting time plus heat, a lot of Roadkills IDGAFS were had. As long as it made a specific coverage, and fit what I needed at the time. Being fully clothed in direct sun with 100 degree weather, started taking its toll. Eesh.

As for the "Big Three," I cheated. I added a diode in line to the AltS wire. Then because I had spare wires, from other projects, I just added an additional wire, instead of one bigger wire, for those runs. Make sense? Didn't have to buy additional wires, and close-enough doubles the ampacity.

 

...I had to lookup the fact that "ampacity" is a real word. Thought Tor was taking some "editorial rights" on language.

 

I've been known to do just that. Just not this time.

Glad to put this project to and end. I was so sweaty yesterday from the heat, that it felt like I was walking in puddles.

 

Then welded the tops and sides of these. Just for the heck of it.

 

Finishing off with these plates in the cross-member which supports the evap equipment.
