    Dear “Help Me”,

You have no recourse at the dealership. They will literally tell you anything to make a sale. That door is shut. Don’t waste your time.

    your options:
    1. Aquire OEM parts and replace
    2. Find someone with black panels and trade
    3. Find local shop to re-cover with new black material.
    4. Find local Tacoma enthusiast will to hel you out.
Since you’re older, don’t sound comfortable doing DIY modifications and want to do this cheaply I think your best bet is to ask a local member nicely to help you out with either trading or re-covering the panels.

How do folks get that deep in the buying process without knowing what they're buying? Google image search, go and look at similar models, I mean this is a very silly gripe to be totally honest. Who's job is it for the customer to be informed about what they're buying? First and foremost, it's your job. Assume even the salesperson is a know-nothing asshat. Do your own research.

There are many ways to do a thing. If you must change the color, protect the surrounding area, etch or abrade the surface to be painted so it can actually accept the paint, and then paint the damn thing. Done.

This could be a good option. Its used in making shoes, so it will adhere to different materials.

the red would look fine if everything else was black... but you've got 3 colors going on there. weird.

like others said.. used in good condition door panels are looking to be like $250 each, i'd just bite the bullet and swap them.

please do not listen to anyone here that's talking about gluing shit them, jesus christ lmao.

A hard lesson to learn, but nothing a salesman tells you is valid until it's put on paper.

Fortunately you can likely sell this for more than you paid and then order another truck... from a different dealer.

It's the three colors. My interior is completely black (actually "dark gray"). I'd would've loved to have the tan headliner so it didn't feel like a cave inside.

    edit:
Shoe Goo glue for fixing the rubber soles of shoes would hold onto the red rubber/vinyl part. I've used it to hold fabric and vinyl together in a fairly well worked location and it has held for years.

I don't think I would do anything before I went to a reputable auto upholstery shop and see what the options are, they should be up on custom stuff etc.

Hey don't hate just because some of us have to pull both ears and rub our bellies a certain way while singing kumbaya and then wait 15 minutes at idle to get a short window to check our fluid level!

Tough crowd. Geezers internet shaming other geezers  Someone’s mom can kick your ass on the computer :rofl:

@Help Me , stick around and find your local thread. Folks are willing to help each other out, if needed. You brought up a good option in junk yard panel replacements. Folks here may also be willing to swap ‘em out but you need at least 50 posts. Buy Sell Trade rules

Never accept any conjecture/promises from car salesman, real estate people, finance people or your brother-in-laws brother. Real estate people are the worst "oh i''m sure you can move that wall".... It all needs to be in writing, you should be making notes with time/date documenting discussions/promises made during the negotiation and people should read their contracts before signing. Inspecting the critical issues for you on the rig before accepting is up to you. That said you should be able to cover up the hideous somehow with stain, etc..
