    Hello!

I just spliced in the updated blower resistor on my 2013 Tacoma. The different blow strengths work perfectly. However, before I placed the resistor back in its slot I wanted to inspect the resistor itself. I am glad I did because as it was sitting on my rubber floor mat operating, it got so hot it started to melt the rubber on the mat. I immediately turned it off and it cooled down. I re-crimped a connector I thought was loose but I am still having the same issue.

I dont do electrical work at all so I am inviting all the criticisms on my "handy" work. I am hoping it is due to just a poor connection job. I removed one of the connectors so you could see my stripping work (wire stripping)

    Thoughts?

It's normal for the resistor to get hot when in use, that's why it is placed in the airflow of the blower to keep it cool. Don't run it for long when it's removed from the blower housing as it will overheat.

Feeling the air coming from the housing doesn’t seem too cool. But if you are saying that kind of heat is normal then I’ll give it a go. Thanks!

The air is straight from the blower before the evaporator so it's not going to be cold but the resistor requires airflow across it to keep it from burning out.

Resistors get hot. A heater (element) is a “resistor”
