I installed an after-market head unit in my 2018 Tacoma SR a few years ago. I could never get the back up camera to work with it for some reason, but I figured I would go back in and see if I could get it working. I had it all put back in its place, and had the car on and the radio turned off and hasn't turned on since. I checked the fuse on the back of the radio and it was fine, checked the fuse in the fuse box and it was blown, so I replaced the fuse. It still won't turn on. Any other fuses to check (I replaced Radio No1, but does not appear to be a radio No 2 in my fuse box.) or any other suggestions?

When you replaced the fuse did it blow again?

Did you recheck the fuse on the back of the head unit? It sounds like you might have a short somewhere, but the question is where. I'd pull the head unit and make sure all of the wires are clear of the metal back there. There are some really sharp edges. The alternative is that you have an open because a wire isn't connected.

Also, and this always strikes me as weird, my the radio in my wife's 2007 Highlander will not turn on if the head unit and the HVAC controls are not both connected and mounted into the dash.

I'll have to check next time I pull it out. Stupidly left my wrench at my parents place when I was over there helping them.

I did a bit ago, but can't remember if I checked it before or after replacing the fuse. I'll check

I wish I could help here, but the last time I put a stereo in a car, my brother and I were putting a very nice, top of the line Blaupunkt in our POS VW bug. I think there we 6 wires; 4 speaker wires, a power wire, and a ground wire. :)

Good luck brother, you'll figure it out!

Where are you located? I have a stock sr5 radio in my garage if you’re close we can plug it in to see if it’s the truck or the radio that’s the problem

Blaupunkt was the shit to put in a bug back in the day. Simpler times. Mine was a 74 so it was at least 12 volt. Some of my buddies were 6 volt. You forgot the antenna. 7 wires to hook up.

Mine had the washer fluid resivoir that ran off of spare tire pressure. We re-routed that into the glove box and made a Jack dispenser out of it. Had a cool little wet/bar setup in it.

The first time I was helping someone install a new antenna in his VW (a Golf I think) I was confused by the black wire on the antenna. Black is ground in most vehicle electrical systems, but not the VW. To power the amplifier, they used a black wire. F*cking Krauts.

I'm down in FL. I actually have my stock radio lying around myself. I'll pop that in and see if that at least turns on.

Since I bought a pack of fuses, would there be any sense of trying a different one? (Same rating of course)

Of course. The break could be too difficult to see from the naked eye.

You can always test a fuse with a VOM. If there is an open, then the fuse is blown.

Are your mirror controls working? I ask because there is a radio fuse I blew on the inside cab fuse panel that when it’s blown you also loose mirror controls.
