I did some searches and didn't see anything on this topic. I'm thinking about doing the switch to a electric fan, Has anyone ever done this?

Can I ask why? I'm also very interested in doing the electric fan. All I've done performance wise is afe filter, charcoal and intake resonator removal. Would it still not help?

In deep water the electric fan can be turned off so it doesn't become a propeller.
I used to dunk the head lights in my old 85 on 38's and had water come over the hood briefly once.

less load on the crank pulley ='s better fuel eco.? I was thinking a decent CFM fan on a temp fan switch would do the trick.

Can you change the temperature on the stock fan?
Not sure what temp the clutch pulls in at?

I've thought of changing to a efan but was told the same thing.

"The conversion of mechanical energy to electricity and back to mechanical rotary power with a fan motor is less efficient than a direct mechanical connection, but this is more than compensated by greater control of an electric fan through electronic thermostatic controls which can turn the fan completely off when the engine temperature is below the setpoint."

So its really not worth it for load rating like rocklobster has pointed out. But if youre interested in having it turn on sooner to help maintain lower temperatures/higher cfm then thatd be the only reason to change it out

What is all involved when changing to a efan system?
    Pricewise?
    Parts?

I ran into this page that talks about the two mistakes people make by either a) using a manual control or b) overworking the alternator and then explains a solution around it. I'm not electrically savvy but would this solution be a work around?

Now, now, now, don't be diss'n what you don't have. :D

I've had this installed for over 6 years now. Always kept it cool. Short summary, does not help with performance or mpg, does help with quieting the fan noise, and cleans up the engine bay nicely. Worth $400 for that,,,, up to you to decide.

I did just have to replace the actual fan motor this spring, as it just stopped working, but a replacemnt was not too expensive. Install is a matter of some electrical work, and getting it done right as the connections are exposed to the weather in the engine bay. I also upgrad the controller to a 2 stage one to reduce the fan startup drag on the engine and electrical system while at idle. I think that was an additional $70.

Hardly a shitty kit imo. I use the same extreme 180 on my v8 truck in alabama with ac during summer time. Others use it with a 408 in same conditions. That fan will easily keep a tacoma cool.

Cleans up engine bay very nicely I agree.
Very old pic of mine. I haven't measured a tacoma radiator but the fan is larger in person than it looks in that pic. Maybe it's just my little screen from tablet.

Taurus fan is a stout one also. Another cheap reliable high cfm fan is from the Chevy hhr.

I would think that the best of both worlds would be replacing the viscoupling fan clutch with a electromagnetic fan clutch. I have yet to find a replacement that would fit. Would work well too. AC clutch power to the 86 pin and ground 85 and 30. Then put the clutch on 87 and 87a. 30 would run through the thermal switch to ground. Now you'll have cold AC in traffic too.
