Hey guys hoping for some ideas or some common culprits to look for.

I’ve got a 2012 regular cab 2.7 5 speed with 190k miles. Just started today but sometimes when first give throttle and almost every time while I’m at any speed let off the throttle then give it gas again it clunks.

the u joints seem to be nice and tight, I will say the front diff bearings seem a tad sloppy but when I search all I read is those manifest as a vibration or growl not a clunk on acceleration.

thanks in advance for any opinions on a solution!!

If you're positive the u joints aren't the culprit I'd check your front suspension for loose bolts and worn components

Likely the slip yoke. As the truck squats on breaking/acceleration the yoke will shorten/lengthen. As the grease gets older it's not as smooth and tends to clunk a bit. See the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvKwgjpsbdg

Great ideas!! I’m going to check suspension tomorrow, and for sure getting grease because the slip yoke definitely is in the location my minds eye puts the clunk that’s why first thing I check was u joints but was unaware of the slip yoke.

Poly bushings all around, URD Headers, Composite Carbon Stage II clutch, TRD short throw, URD Spec U Exhaust, Tow package, Bunny Trails, Fairy Dust, Triple Dynamat Insulated, Blood, sweat, grit and some good old fashion elbow grease.
Also check (however unlikely, but since you’re down there) your transmission mount bolts, cross member bolts, upper control arm and lower control arm bolts, leaf spring mounting points (especially the spring to axel bolts).

    good luck!

So turns out when I went to take drive shaft out to grease slip yoke the u joint by the rear diff must have been on a bind because once the drive shaft was out it was obvious that joint was bad. The needle bearings were toast in one of the cups. So I replaced both u joints and greased the slip yoke and it drives like a dream again!!

    Thanks guys
