The low-note horn on my '03 XtraCab recently started failing. The high-note trumpet always works, but as often as not, the low one doesn't. I figure I have three choices...

    1) Do nothing. I still have a horn.
    2) Replace the low-note trumpet.
    3) Replace both trumpets.

Option 1 really isn't an option. I'm from the "fix things when they break" school. Plus, the high-note horn on its own is pretty prissy sounding. It's sounds like my grandma's Chevette in 1985.

I'm leaning towards Option 3. I figure that while I'm in there, I might as well fix both. But I don't know- is that just a waste? Are horns like headlights, should you replace both when you replace one? Or if it isn't broken, should I leave the high one alone and just replace the one that needs replacing? Anyone here just replaced one, then found the other one failed shortly afterwards?

    Thanks for any insight.

I use the Hella horns, but I also installed an electronic air horn from Lamphus as well.

For the factory horn trumpets, I used these.

Do it right add a air compressor and Air Horn!!

One of those fire truck horns would attract attention.

I've run into a problem here. Based on recommendations in the forum, I bought the Hella horns. I replaced them, and....same problem. High works, low doesn't. I switched the horns, and the low works but the high doesn't- so the problem isn't the horns, it's something else. I cleaned the connection on the non-working one, and no luck. I left the low one where the high one is supposed to go- I figure, if I'm gonna have one, the low one sounds better.

If it was the relay, would this happen? That is, could a bad relay cause just one to go out?

    OP already bought them. :burp:

He/she came back to post that he got them, but has issues with either the wiring or relays.
