I was reading a few news stories, when I came across this in the news section.
Someone purchase a use 4-runner and every few months needed new rotors.
    A tech …
Toyota is sensitive to wheel torque. One lug nut over tighten or under tighten can cause brake vibrations.
Also the hubs can cause the rotors to distort
Third possible reason is over size tires.

    Just sharing this story.

I'm a toyota tech, rotors get hot spots from heat. It's that simple. So driving habits, regardless of equipment.

Out of round can be from over torqued wheels, but is very rare. Simply because after 100ft lbs these lugs start to stretch and break.

3rd gen 4runners had serious problems with dissipating heat. If you drove it hard or rode the brakes, it was going to need rotors.

4th and 5th gens we don't see as many complaints.

I got a question why does my 2019 Tacoma rear passenger brakes locks up , while driving a short distances.
My last truck wash, the rear brakes really lock hard next morning . Put in Reverse gear free the rear passenger brakes.
Toyota told me DO NOT USE the hand brakes after a wash.

been to the dealer 4 times, they could not find the problem.why rear passenger brakes locks up while driving. Oil/ lube cables.check the brakes.
4th time I replace both E- cables. The problem had been reduce. Almost a month no problem, except that one truck washing. It rains a lot and I drive though muddy holes.

    2019 Tacoma TRD

Please I like to hear what can cause this and solutions?
In the past it happens a couple times a week. And some weeks nothing. Rains a lot here.

I had a vibration at 51K miles. Everything torqued to specs. I put these rotors and pads on a couple weeks ago and the vibration is gone. I never had slotted and drilled rotors before, so I am interested to see how they hold up. I never off-road, so mud and dirt is not a concern. So far I am very happy the way the truck stops.

I don’t know why they lock up. But my 2019 does the same thing. Two ways I’ve remedied. After a wash, drive it a couple minutes to get any water out that may have gotten in. OR, don’t use the parking break. Only happens when I used the parking brake after a wash.

If vehicle is parked while brakes are wet a thin film of rust will form on friction surface. If park brake is applied the rust will seize brake pad/shoe and rotor/drum together. Since brake shoes have a larger surface area than pads they are more difficult to free up when moving vehicle. Brakes will sometimes be grabby or lockup prematurely until rust film rubs off.

E-brake cables also could be a problem too? After starting my Tacoma while in 4H , a short distance while driving, the rear passenger brakes will lock, reverse to free.

it use to happen on a sharp turn, then anytime. Once I replaced the E-cables , it seems to be trouble free so far, ( only been less then two months with new e- cables). But the rear brakes did locked up hard after a washing.
