Beware of adding too much weight. It can cause damage to the radiator support.... especially if offroading a lot.

Interesting topic. This is what was on Google. Note many brands differ in 24f & 27f categories
Over all- the 24f produces more cranking amps and less reserve capacity then a 27f.
27f has less cranking amps, but more reserve capacity. Varies brand to brand.

Some 24f can weight more then a 27f battery, most 27f can be heavier, all brands will differ in weights.
24f is usually 10” long vs 27f 12 inches long , varies brand to brand. 27f usually are more expensive.

2016 and up the Tacoma tow packages only comes with 24f. 2015 w/ tow packages and below tow packages came with 27f.
Buy a 2015 27f battery tray for the newer Tacomas if looking for a larger tray.

2016 and up Tacoma Tow packages included a Trailer-sway control, engine cooler, transmission cooler, 4/7 pin connectors, 130 amp alternator, H/D battery (24f) & a Type 4 receiver hitch. Not sure rear size and gearing ?

You'll need a compatible base which is not super expensive or you ca make the OEM base fit. Bottom line, it will work but just not plug and play.

Best to watch the YouTube video - Battery box upgrade install , Rego Fabrication.

    When buying any aftermarket batteries.
You will need to buy the positive side to be on the right hand side of the battery. Red terminal facing closest to center of engine and Red terminal facing back wall of the truck.
Or the Red cables will not reach.
Check you factory battery terminals first.
As he mentions always remove the negative side terminal first.

A lot of people talk about doing a dual battery set up with a lithium house battery. Why not just replace the starting battery with a group 24 lithium from battleborn instead? Seems like it would be a lot easier and a lot less components.

The point of dual is to have physical separation of the batteries to ensure the starter battery is never drawn down.

I totally get that, but I think it would take a lot for me to draw down a 75AH battery to where it won't start the truck. Keep in mind you can draw the lithium battery to zero without really damaging it.

Lithium batteries like that don't have the CCA of an AGM or led acid.

You also can not draw a lithium battery to zero.

So it would have trouble cranking the engine in the first place? Makes sense
