Best laser bore sights?

Was trying to sight in scopes on a ruger 10/22 and ruger American predator .308 and the laser bore sights I had I could not even see the red dot at 50 yards in the daytime.


Any help? Tips? Tricks?

Yeah, they're not daylight bright cuz its basically a keychain laser. Theres really no way around it, it just doesnt have the juice. Easier way is to "manually" boresight through the receiver to get close (if possible), but for the 10/22 being a closed action, you'll prob just have to start at 15-25 then walk yourself back to 50y to stay on the paper.

You could also try boresighting at twilight to get close. Dont even need to be at a range to do it. Just pick a 50y tree in advance of a range trip, and dial the crosshair to the laser dot.

 

thanks! We were getting close manually, considering my scopes were way off. Just trying to get it dialed in.

 

Another question. Do you have a good adjustable shooting rest or bag sand bag configuration to recommend? Part of the frustration we were having at the range was the bench/table they had at each station felt like they were way too short and low to the ground and it was hard to get a good and conformable shooting position.

I don't understand how bore sights work with rifles. Aren't you sighting in to account for bullet drop? The laser will be a straight line, so for anything beyond 25 yds, it doesn't seem like it would work.

 

It’s just to get your cross hairs Fairly close to where they need to be.


Every time I’ve seen it done they just point it at the wall and line em up, fine tune on paper

 

Just need to get close, not perfect. Gets you on the paper at least. Esp useful if you took a scope off one rifle and put it on another. I've had some wild zero deviations between rifles before.

 

Armageddon Gear "sticky pint sized gamechanger" and Accuracy first rear bag. They're PRS type bags and work well for the purpose, but are super useful for so many things, I even bring them in my hunting pack for times a bipod won't work.

You might consider the OG "fullsize" gamechanger if using for explicitly benchrest use since the pint size is a little small to use for that purpose soley.

If you only want a rear bag to pair with a bipod for tabletop/benchrest shooting, find an old tube sock, fill with rice or airsoft BBs, tie it off.

I've been fairly happy with the

$110 SiteLite Mag Laser Boresighter Black/Red/Silver

Sitelight SL-100 and have used it on all my handguns and rifles. Always gets me really close on paper when i finally get out to the range. It comes with enough fittings (O-rings on screw-on adapters) to cover everything from .22 to 12G. You can also run their free ballistic software to print you a target for your desired cartridge and setup and the software will give you an 8 yard target that will show you where the laser dot will be and where you should align your scope. Is it necessary? Probably not, but it's easy and really helps cut down on time. If I'm zero'ing at 100 yards, I just head straight to that range and skip the 25 and 50 yard stations.
