Your Dodge Truck theory was proven again.

Nothing like making a left turn with your signal on here comes the idiot in the left lane passing 2 of us.

The vehicle behind me blocking my signal in a No passing zone.

If you read back in the publications of the day Chrysler had build quality issues from the 50's - 90's -- noise, rattles, water leaks, early rust, on and on, always silly problems to insult the very solid power trains.

The Torqueflight automatic was legendary doing service in millions of motor homes, police cars and taxis.
Then came the 1990's and with it came the transmission problems (and they kept the rust too).

:rofl:I figure that to be the case though...why I said we'd be experts at swapping them by the time he found a good one. I think 30 day exchange so we'd have to do it quickly:rofl:

It is within the scope of the handy guy to refresh a Chrysler rear drive automatic at home, buy good books and have at it -- start with one that actually works.

This idea has been floated around too. That's what I told him, keep the original that's in there and pay the core (it's cheap) and we may give it a try. I can make most if not all the special tools.

Generally seems to be the guy with no mud flaps and causing rock damage to my vehicles too.
Those must be a expensive option as I see many of them without. I've even mentioned to a couple people about how much they save from rust on that rear portion of the box.

I guess better get myself showered up. Going to have blood drawn for check-up. I ended up taking Dr. Advice and trying the cholesterol med...hopefully it's not killing my liver.
Nice gentle rain now for at least a few hours.20220706_080351.jpg

I've taken out and put back in auto transmissions but I've never attempted to rebuild one. I think it's because if I fail I know I have to remove it again and figure out where I went wrong. I've paid to have 3 rebuilt in my life with the most expensive being the Allison in my Druamax 4 years ago for $4,850.00

Customer at the store this morning told me he has to go in for a colonoscopy tomorrow, they were supposed to do it last week but nobody told him he had to drink "the stuff".

#1, I'm sure they told you, you ignored it.
#2, who wants to hear that at 6:30 in the morning from a stranger

No reverse was a common problem with Torqueflights back in the day - broken reverse band - caused by the band not being adjusted for years. As it wore it traveled farther, moved faster and engaged harder and harder until it broke, not bad to fix.

No forward is common too, failed (something ) clutch. The earlier Chrysler automatics used a throttle valve rod (or cable) to control transmission pressure. The rod ran from the throttle linkage to the transmission and told the transmission what your right foot was doing. Step down = more pressure.

Over time (or tinkering) the rod could become mis-adjusted or disconnected, then the transmission wouldn't increase pressure under heavy throttle causing slippage - wear - heat - failure.

I don't know how late Chrysler used that control system, pretty sure that truck still uses that setup.
General Motors, Ford and Borg Warner mostly used vacuum modulators to do the same thing on their early transmissions.

Yeah. The Allison I have, if it slips it goes into limp mode locking itself in 4th gear. Hard to take off pulling 10,000 lbs in 4th gear. I learned this on the side of the road pulling our camper for the 1st time to the mountains. It would only slip down shifting from OD to D. To reset it you had to turn it off and unplug the wiring harness for a little bit.

When I test drove it, I drove it hard but it wouldn't slip and go into limp mode unless I was pulling something heavy. Once they start slipping, they only get worse.

I'm good for 750 HP now :burnrubber:

After having it rebuilt, it will upshift while pulling hills now instead of downshifting. It's a totally different truck after having it done.

My dad had a 1995 Dodge with the Cummins, 2nd gear came out of it and the overdrive housing busted at 100K miles. He washed it and was moving it back into his garage when it happened o_O

He did tow a lot of heavy stuff with it, it just decided to grenade in the yard.

I filled out paper work for my concealed carry permit renewal February 7th, it expired May 20 something. Friday we had the kids in the Suburban getting ready to leave for the beach, mail lady pulled up to the mailbox. I went down there and there was my permit :goingcrazy:

    Re Poll:
Had both, the dogs are gone now. I would greatly enjoy another dog but really don't want to add any more responsibilities to my life at this point.

We have 4 cats, didn't go looking for any of them:
    1) kitten needed a home - she was going to be dumped
    2) kitten found wandering on a street in town
    3) wandered into the garage all beat up and starving, probably hit by a car, I fed him and brought him home
    4) Daisy the 6 pound tough cat - she abandoned the (nutty) neighbors and decided she was moving in with us

I think the words diesel or transmission always are accompanied by the word expensive.
