Getting ready to buy new tires for my truck. This is my first time buying tires and before I drop a grand on them, id like to make sure the tires Im getting will even fit. I have 17x7 TRD Pro rims and I'm buying the AT/III size LT255/80r17. The chart says it has a rim width range of 6.5-7.0-8.5. As far as I can tell these tires should fit just fine but y'all know more about this than I do so I figured it wouldn't hurt to check.

I take it you are talking Toyo AT III. On the chart the rim width range given the bold number (7.0) is what Toyo is stating as ideal. So yes the 7.0" is ideal. But that size being an "E" load rated tire you will need to run them at a lower PSI. I run my BFG KO2's "E" load rated as well at 25psi on the street and have been getting very even tire wear.

Yes the 7 inch is the measure rimm for this sise ( 255) and aspect ratio ( 80).
Ideal is when rimmwidth is treathwidth, and for 80% aspect ratio treathwidth is 0.71 x Section width ( your 255, is practically 10 inch x 0.71= 7.1 inch.)

But sames sises in E- load needs a higher pressure then P-tire. Have to calculate it for you but estimate 25ps higher.
So if your recomended pressure for 255/80R17 in P tire standard load is for instance is 30 psi, then the E load needs about 55 psi.
Nit for even wear, but to prevent overheating of tirematerial when driving the speed constantly, the pressure is determined for.

Now weights on tires is in normal use mostly lower then GAWR's, so a lower pressure can probably do. For GAWR the carmaker determines the pressure, and for maximum technical carspeed, and you normaly dont drive topspeed of car.
Or do you have another sise tires now?
Larger tires can do with lower pressure.

Right now I have 265/65/17, so I’m upping tire diameter by give it take 3in

    Googled your sises.
265/65R17 in standard load has loadindex 112 is maxload 2470 lbs AT 36psi( mayby 35)
In XL LI 116 is maxload 2750 AT 42 psi ( mayby 41)

    The LT255/80R17 E-load LI 121 is maxload 3200lbs AT 80 psi.

If you now give the recomended pressures for your car and check if XL ( I dont expect it), I will calculate what pressure is needed for the LT, to give the same loadcapacity.

Best would be to give real axleweights and maximum speed used, then I can calculate for that, but determining the weights is the most tricky part in it all, and varies in use for normal cars.

Then for the moment I assume a standard load tire.
    Then 29psi represents a 2077lbs loadcapacity for 99mph.

Turning it around a 2077 loadcapacity for new LT needs 46.6psi.

If it turnes out to be XL, I have to recalculate.
Calculated it with use of the official used calculation in Europe for al kind of tires since decades, and since 2006 also for P-tires in US.
