Thank you for updating the thread. So many people don’t update once they’ve fixed their issue.

I agree. Good job OP. One suggestion though. Can you edit your thread title to add the code and SOLVED ? Will make it even easier to find for others in the future.

We just got the P11EE code on our 2017 TRD. We have 67K miles, so we are out of warranty. Is there a way for me to check the valve? I apologize if this is a dumb question...but our other car is in the shop for a blown engine...so I am freaking out.

Just wanted to reboot this thread in hopes anyone can provide feedback on their truck after the repairs were made. Mine also has extremely low miles and the motor is currently out of the truck for the same code. Thankfully, the dealership is telling me they're likely replacing the whole motor, but there's a chance it'll just be a head. The latter makes me super nervous for longevity considering i just read this happening at 67k, just out of warranty.

My 2018 TRD Sport (43k miles) has been in the shop for 2 weeks now. I had the same error code P11EE. I just got off the phone with service and they said they had to replace the valve guides. How big of an issue is this? I'm thinking of trading it in now :(

Strange this issue creeps at 40k. I wouldn't worry personally.

Hello everyone. I purchesed a certified used 2018 toyota tacoma sr with 75k. Had the truck less than a week when the CEL popped on. I pulled the code and came up with a P11CE. Cylinder 1 air fuel ratio bad. Looked at this forum and feared the worst. Come to find out its the same issue. Dealer called last night after almost 2 weeks of no communication and said they replaced the head. I have so many concerns with this. Granted they gave me a free loaner vehicle and covered the repair, there was no communication from them and seems like this is becoming a common issue. I put 2k on a vehicle per month just traveling to work. Its awesome they repaired it but is this going to happen on another cylinder? Are they going to put out a tsb? Will they cover this out of waranty? It's clearly an issue from factory which makes this a factory defect and lets be honest, dropping valves is a big deal especially at less than 100k! Im going to pick up my truck tonight and will post their comments to me under this thread.

It may not be common, but it is concerning. I bet Carol and Susan don't have Sienna and Highlander World accounts to compare notes. When the engine shits the bed for them it's oh well it's warranty work or trade in time.

We don't even know the root failure. I have yet to see pictures of broken parts.

I have a 2018 tacoma that had a valve issue, 33k miles and in the dealership to replace every single component in the left side cylinder head. The truck was ticking super loud and tech said it was nothing, returned back to the dealership and told them to keep it till they hear it. They called me back saying they can definitely hear it but don’t know what it is.. fast forward a few days i get a call to get a rental car so they can fix my truck ( under warranty) Tech said that it was a valve lifter issue. they fixed it and now 4 months later i’m starting to hear the tick slowly make it’s way back. I’ve always done oil changes on time using full synthetic oil. I also am about ready to sell this truck, 39k miles and not very pleased with the amount of engine issues already.

I’m curious if these were dealer serviced trucks and on what oil change intervals?

I have 2019 TRD Tacoma and I just got the P11EE code mine is for cylinder 1 air fuel ratio. The issue is burnt valve of cylinder 1. They have to order a head and will be back for repair. I haven't notice any drivability concern. Though engine sounded like it was running a little rough. Researching this seems like a common problem with the v6 around 35-45k miles is when it usually shows it’s head. I asked what caused this and dealer doesn’t know why. As a tech myself little concerning that this is still going on I understand some issues with first couple years of an engine but kinks like this should be work out by time the engine reaches a fews years into production with updated parts. I will update on how it runs after repair

I agree, that is crazy this problem is still showing up in newer 3rd gens. My used 2017 had the P11EE code show up at 80K miles (about 12 days after I had bought the truck) and I managed to negotiate a completely new engine with the dealership. There are not a ton of updates on how the trunk runs after the cylinder head swap. Hopefully no news is good news!

Add my 2017 SR5 to the list. She's in intensive awaiting the new head.. 54K miles and only 2 months left to the power train warranty.

Has this been figured out? Engine built from a factory? Just a poor head? Poor value sleeves? ???

2019 TRD Sport 4x2 37K miles - just had this issue and the entire engine is out of the truck at the dealership. They're covering under warranty which is great, but super bummed about it. I just hope this repair will last.
