no license plates yet

bought a Tacoma from a dealership on March 27. and have not gotten the plates yet.
When I called the DMV about 3-4 weeks ago, I was told it was not submitted yet. When I called the dealership their response: "oh yeah we just sent that in on June "
they gave me a new temp ta at their expense
I am currently on hold with the DMV for 25 minutes to follow up on this to see if it was sent in

I am not sure what to do but it driving me crazy.

any Ideas???

 

just got off the phone with DMV: I was informed that someone had bought the truck a week prior and returned it few days later. it is still in her name. the dealership had to wait until June 1 to submit the paperwork to the Oregon DMV. as of this afternoon, DMV still has not gotten the paper work or opened their mail since 6/1

 

I wouldn't stress about it at all as long as the temp tag is renewed. Life is too short. The temp will do just fine too.

OP dont stress, drive it enjoy it as long as the dealer keeps updating your temp. Getting those plates for you is on them.

 

So you did get it at a used car price, right? Because once titled, it's used. In the eyes of everyone. Regardless of odo readings.

You mean $5k over MSRP? I'd rather get it at the "new" price, assuming no market adjustment.

 

that was the strange part two identical trucks with the only difference being a 2020 and 2022. the 22 was in the ball park of $7000 cheaper then the 20

 

Sounds like the dealer did not disclose to you it was previously titled. That would make me want to ask for a free Extended Warranty. Never hurts to ask.

 

Ya, I'd ask 4 a discount or some freebies. My understanding is that once a vehicle is titled it cannot be sold as "new" irregardless of mileage. So they sold you a used truck as new. That's illegal.

On my 07 sport, toyota never sent me my title. I just discovered that this spring. What a nightmare. Toyota was zero help in sorting it out. I hope everything works out on your amazing new truck.

I would definitely try to get something. Being sold a previously titled vehicle without it disclosed is shady AF

 

Check the paperwork you signed. There may have been lots of talk about you driving home a new truck, but does the paperwork indicate Used or New?

 

I was aware of the other person having it for a few days...... my own concern is how long its taking to get the plates.

 

This could work 4 you. Maybe suggest to them that they reduce the price to Kelly blue book for a used 2022 because "you have no idea what the previous owner did with it"

Or you might have to look into what legal issues could arise from this transaction

Either way. Don't let this glitch ruin your relationship with that sick new access cab. God I wish they made the PRO in access!!!!!

 

by the way I was aware of the person returning the truck- I was aware of situation of the short term "owner". I had forgot to say that in the opening statement

 

Are you making payments on a truck that hasn't been registered for the five months you have been driving it?

What does your insurance company have to say about the two different temporary registrations?

 

Good to know. I would happy with a new temp reg at dealer cost. No need to have a front license plate displayed until the permanent plates arrive.
