I need help or advice, I don’t feel like I know enough about Speakers to pick the right ones. I would like to be able to just go buy a set of focals but I really can’t afford 7 to $800 bucks for a set of K2’s right now. I know I have to go with components, but I just don’t want to buy a set that I’m going to be pulling back out in a year because they don’t sound that great. I’m running the Kicker Key 200.4 and I did throw the Suburu tweeters in the dash a few months ago. Just hoping you guys could recommend something that would really sound good without having to pay for focal . I’m just afraid to make a decision on it lol. I know like I said I have to go with components though

I been looking awfully hard at the Alpine X series but my local audio installer tells me “Oh focal is way way better than those you don’t want to put those in. I can sell you either one but you really want to go with focal flax at least”

I meant Alpine R series not X. The X series is high dollar too

Focal makes an integration-series speaker that is pnp with the factory wiring connections. It doesn't come up for the Tacoma specifically when you search on Crutchfield but it will work. I'm sure it doesn't compare to the K2 but it has to be miles ahead of the factory offering. If you're looking for components prepare to pay a bit more. I have their Access 165 3-way components in my daily and they're fantastic (along with the 165 coaxial's in the rear). Will be putting the same setup in the truck (2-way component version up front) as well once I'm done messing with the suspension.

@drizzoh is referring to the Focal IS690TOY set. I’ve been looking into them myself.

I had seen some on eBay and ask the seller why he didn’t like them and he said he didn’t like the base they produced but that’s just 1 opinion. I’m looking at them myself when your a average working class fella money only goes so far lol. I’d love to have the K2’s but I can only do what I can do you know what I mean.

There aren't a lot of places where you can listen first, but it is worth doing if you can find a way. The material used in the tweeters makes a BIG difference in the sound quality for my ears. I VERY MUCH prefer the sound of silk tweeters. If I were going to spend a lot of money on a set of 6 x 9s I would go for a set of Morels. There are more economical choices available from Alpine and the Kicker KS series that have silk tweeters. Focals don't do much for me. YMMV

For about $480 a pair, the Tempo Ultra 692 MKII is a component setup. You would want to install the tweeters in the sail panels on the door. This would move the sound stage up so that it doesn't sound like the singer is down by your ankles. Sounds like this is the direction you are looking to go. They also have a coax model that is a bit cheaper if you don't want a component setup. They are about $360 a pair, the Tempo Ultra Integra 692 MKII.

If the components sound better I’ll stick with them. Could I put the tweeter in the dash but it would probably work better in the sail panel. I noticed Crutchfield said the 6x9’s won’t fit but I’ll have to find out where I can get some kind of 6x9 spacer

I'm still lazily looking also. I had the kicker CS 6x9s which sounded fine until I added the key then it got a bit harsh. I've since switched to Kenwood Excelons with the 7" mid and silk dome tweeter. Haven't had too much time to mess with the tweeters so I'm still running the DS-18s. It took all of the harshness out of the front stage getting rid of the Kickers. Still on the fence about the Kenwoods as I'd like to Bi Amp and they have passive crossovers soldered to them (I'm not stereo savvy, but that looks to be a problem. ) As far as mounting tweeters in the sail I'd say stick them in the stock location first and see how it sounds(no harm no foul). I definitely notice with the Key that the correction makes the sound stage seem a lot more up and center vs without where it sounded like someone was singing from the floor by the doors. I looked into the Focal ISOTOY setup and the reviews I read basically touted it as a replacement speaker that was an improvement for a stock system, but lack luster at best when looking to amp and improve sound quality, so I decided not to gamble on that particular setup as I already went down that road with the Kickers. YMMV
