That's how I was taught as well. Then, a big debate, neverseize or no... I put a dab on my plugs but I know there are quite a few people who are against it.
I was riding trails in your neck of the woods earlier in the week, Gurney Lane. Not bad, but ran out of trails, had to double back to get some decent mileage in.

Yeah, Gurney is fuuuun but lacking the longer ride. They’re doing good things immediately South with Rush Pond trails. Fitness path with single track off-shoots. Come do the Churney Gurney race later this summer, three laps will get you there!

also check out Kalabus Perry between Schuylerville and Saratoga, Daniels Road (SMBA) in Saratoga, Colonie town Park, or just PM me when you’re in town!

Nice, and thanks for the recommendations. @guitarjamman and I did Moreau State Park last year and it was brutal, not sure if it'd be any different now with more experience and better legs or not. I'll let you know next time I'm around with the bike. My parents live out there but I don't always bring the bike when I go for a visit.

That Churney Gurney looks like it'd be fun! It's not that far off the loop I did when I was there. I ended up getting 10.5 miles starting and ending at the upper lot. I worked around all the way to The Chute and then back, zig zagging all the trails, including their 2 'downhill trails', Tango and E-20.

    Same - I don’t touch Ford’s since they like to snap, fortunately I don’t own a ford!

thread it in by hand, slight twist after that. it’s a spark plug, it’s not going to work itself out if it’s at a “taught” torque, don’t need to gorilla the thing on there.

Reminds me I will need to do my plugs soon and I need to replace the Cyl1 coil pack too. :spy:

I've never used anti seize compound, so I have no position on it pro or con.

I also remember being told to ONLY use the spark plug sockets lest I crack the porcelain insullator and ruin the plug. Of course I also learned to gab the points with the cover of a pack of matches if I didn't happen to have a set of feeler gauges handy. ;)

I always put anti-seize on my plugs. As soon as they’re finger tight, 1/4-1/2 turn with the ratchet just to get a good seal on the crush washers.

I use anti-seize as well, finger tight then torque to 10 ft-lbs, which is probably about the same as 1/4-1/2 turn if I paid attention to how much rotation it takes.

It must of been last year, but we rode Gurney the day after the race - the day of we rode Moreau State park instead. Those were some gnarly trails with an estimate of 50% being hike a bike both up and down. Glad you recommended a few other places as well! There isn't much to choose from in the Queensbury area that I could find on trail forks.

    Unwelcome statement.

Every fastener has a torque value.
Every multiple fastener part, has a torque sequence(sometimes, even single fastener parts have a torque sequence)
No fastener should go in, DRY, UNLESS noted. Anti-sieze, loctite, oil, or fastener assembly lube.
    No dry orings.
    Gaskets, depends...
Yes, I use my torque wrenches changing my oil, etc

Never used the stuff on my old vehicles..as in before the aluminum. That and they didn't last nearly as long then as now. I used a sliver on mine 2 years ago because 100K is a long time so cheap insurance.

i think antiseize is fine in most applications as long as torque is reduced to accommodate it, especially on aluminum threads. I believe i use 20% when doing plugs. I dont use it on everything, just items i know i will have to replace again and have a history of getting stuck

I think a spark plug socket is just a deepwall socket with a rubber insert that will hold onto the plug.

they do hold on, thats a plus, but also keeps the plug straight. Whenever i do my plugs there are a couple where you cant access the plug straight on, if you dont keep the extension perfectly straight a standard socket can contact the plug and crack it if not careful. There was a thread on here recently where i thought the conclusion we came to for cracked insulator was not keeping the socket straight. The rubber insert kind of lets you know when a universal joint is needed because it doesnt allow you to be crooked.

Drivers side plugs are a bitch, you can reach one of the things you need to loosen through the wheel well though (really made the difference)

Just when I think I'm caught up on maintenance,,I read something like this and nope. Time for plugs again.

Going to Ossipee for the weekend. My oldest and his gf are living up there for the summer. Going to hit the fair and he tells me a few class VI roads near by are worth checking out.

I’ll be up there end of the month for bluegrass festival. If you don’t mind sharing the info on the roads, that would be cool, I end up that way once in a while.

Using a friend's RTT in a couple weeks to give it a shot. Needed bed bars. Needed budget.

    40$ strut
35$ clamps - you could do it with cheaper clamps but I "splurged" a little.

They're not perfect. I sat across the back one and it held my fat ass but you can definitely feel that they're an open square.

    Good to know. Thanks!

Just rolled over 50. Guarantee I forget this tidbit by the time I do them.

NH? Check out armor ditch/Harley jacks burgers. The owner has a little off road park out back. I still haven't been but go wheeling with a group that's gone like 6 times.

Double it up on the roads here too! Might have been on them before but it's been so long ago I don't remember. And didn't have Gaia so haven't a clue where we went.

That's pretty much it. I have both sizes from back in the old days. I'd have to look, but they are either Snap On or Craftsman.

I took a stroll out to the garage, all 10 feet of distance, and looked at my spark plug sockets. Both are Snap On and both have built in universal joints. Very high end. ;)

I also found this. It's a socket, about 1 1/4" inside diameter. No markings on it other than "USA." It might be a seat belt bolt socket, but I have no idea what it's from. The inside shape is pretty clearly for some sort of specialized bolt.
