I was looking on here yesterday for a good color match to touch up my steel wheels but couldn’t find one. I found this and it blends seamlessly! If you want to just cover up a scratch or a spot that has worn away then this is great for that. You could do this in 15 minutes. I left them right on the truck while doing it. I wasn’t trying to go crazy and fully paint the wheels or anything because I’m going to be getting it appraised to trade in. Even getting down and looking super hard for the spot I did I can barely find it.

Yep. Just taped a few sheets of paper together and held them up to the lip of the rim. The little bit of overspray they got on the tire wiped right off.

that paint says peelable rubber, does that mean if you get overspray areas you can peel off unwanted excess?

I debated getting new center caps. Found them on eBay for $20 apiece. Dealership wanted $90 plus tax for one!!

Yeah, same thing as plasty dip. The first spot I did I sprayed it on there and rubbed it off just to make sure. Came off super easy. I just peeled it then rubbed it with a wet towel to get The little pieces that didn’t come off by peeling

if you are getting rid of the truck for resale you can get in between those spokes and clean the grime off with that inner rim piece with some effort it makes a world of difference in the way the rims look to help resale. I used something like this https://www.walmart.com/ip/Durable-...MI6Mzw3Nyk6gIVgq_ICh1V3Qu7EAQYBSABEgJ-EfD_BwE

I'm just wondering how this will hold up in a New England winter, or will I be doing it two-three times a year. I may just breakdown and have the rims sandblasted and re-powder coated at a local shop here in Vermont. They charge about $65/rim (if the tire is off) so in the long run it may be worth it. These are going on a 2001 with less than 50K miles on it that my son bought for his first truck so hopefully he'll be in the 300K club like me with my 2009.

Finding alloy takeoffs from the same vintage Tacoma "could" be a better deal.

By the time you have a dismount, mount, balance and stems done, you'll be in over $100 per.

OTOH, if you go with a product like above, you can teach son how to DIY refinish, along with your annual frame protection exercise and brake servicing.

Once and a while there is someone selling these types of rims (with crape tires on them) on Facebook Marketplace for $75 or $100 bucks for the 4 rims with sensors (which are usually bad). Not a bad price and my local tire guy doesn't charge me for taking any old tires off rims (I just give him $5-$10 in cash) then that's a good idea of having the boy clean them up, repaint them, clearcoat and get them ready for some tires. Even though the sandblasting does a fantastic job, I think that's a great idea!

I think it will hold up pretty good. Never really heard anything about me about plasty dip not holding up to weather. nothing really to lose by trying it. $8.
