First off, this is a thread so I can track my weight loss and keep myself responsible. Feel free to use this thread to track and keep yourself responsible as well.

I started the new year really out of shape.
    5'8"

    31 years old
    Weight as of 1/4/20: 253
Needless to say, I need to lose weight. I have a heavy/wide build and will never be a lightweight. The thinnest I've been as an adult was 195, and at that weight I had a 6 pack. Soooo, 195 is my goal although I have no illusions of a 6 pack anymore. I will start off using keto as that works really well for me. Hopefully, I can get to that weight by my 32nd bday in August.

Hey, good luck on your journey! I’m 5’9 and was lost 45 pounds about five years ago so you can definitely do it. I’ve managed to keep it off, but managing weight and muscle is much harder at 45 than it is at 31 so kudos to you for starting early.

    Good luck man!

My journey started June 1st 2017. I went from 276 down to 185. It started with quitting drinking, about 20 pounds fell right off. Which started the trend. After I put down the beer cans, I took up drinking LaCroix like a mad man, had to do something about that habit (Hand to mouth). Drinking healthy turned into eating healthy. I cut down calories from god knows how much to about 1750 per day, I was working a desk job and not exercising at all.

Then after losing about 35 pound from diet change, I bought a rowing machine and a yoga mat. I started working out in my apartment, and then transitioned to a gym. I lose enough weight to start running again, and the rest is history. My knee's thank me every day. I'm up to about 195 now, once I lost all the weight I wanted I started lifting weights to really do something about some of that loose skin lol. I by no means am a small guy either. I'm about 5'7" and have a pretty "thicc" figure.

Replaced stock radio with a Pioneer AVH series head unit. Focal component system w/a 10" sub powered by 2 Alpine amps. Weathertech floor mats. Line-X'd the bed. SCS Ray 10’s, Installed an A.R.E. MX series camper shell. All-Pro Apex front bumper w/ All-Pro skid plates all the way back to the Trans. Low Range fuel skid plate.
I work on a ship and we often take bets on who can lose the most weight. I won once. I went from 197 to 182 in a month. It’s not great results but I felt great. I’m back up to 195. If ever I stop sailing Id love to join the gym and start intermittent fasting and keto.

Good Luck! I'm 6'3 and have stupidly wide structure, so my ideal target is about 215-220 (at least for now). I started this year with a broken scale, so I don't know what I topped out at (I'm fairly sure it was somewhere between 290-300 :anonymous:). I finally figured out my scale was bad and replaced it at 285, I'm currently at 252. Hope to hit target by end of summer.

Exercise is starting to feel good again. I'm digging the energy boost. Digging the confidence that comes with the energy boost. Especially digging being able to access most of my wardrobe again. Girlfriend says I don't snore anymore. Its the weird little things that you notice, I guess. :fistbump:

Reducing portion size and slowing way the fuck down when eating is helping a lot. So is eliminating snacking when not hungry, and reducing alcohol and sugar intake. I started this year with plans for success, and dammit, despite what current events unfold, I'm still gonna kick some ass.

Copy/pasted from another forum on Feb 21:

As of this morning, I'm below 190 for the first time in at least 7 years. My goal was to be what I was when I first met my wife - 185. Getting close to that, thanks to muscle loss, I'm likely going to keep going until the stomach is a little flatter. Still, with losing 22 pounds in just over 2 months, I'm pretty happy with that, especially now that the gym is off limits and it still too cold to bike.

Good luck bro. I'm a similar height as you and been ping ponging between 185-220 the past 10 years. I never was able to find a lifestyle change that I can stick with. Hoping you do better than me

My wife has lost weight. She studied comprehensively. It was working with a nutritionist and fitness trainer. But nutrition is important and it is important to drink water (plain water, not tea, not coffee, not carbonated drinks)

You are what you eat, it’s that simple.
What we may see as fat, maybe mostly inflammation from all the junk we eat. I lost 40lbs in three months five years ago, along with a ton of ailments such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart palpitations (racing) chronic cough (for years) constant tiredness and more.

I went cold turkey with an all plant food based diet, and giving up all beverages except for water and natural home made fruit juice.
No fried foods at all, no animal protein and nothing in a package. I replaced steak with potatoes, almond milk instead of cow, olive oil instead of butter, natural honey from the surrounding area instead of sugar. I do now occasionally eat lean turkey breast and fish when nothing else is available or while traveling.

Haven’t had a cold, allergies, cough or cold in five years.

Happy eating, you can do it!

I wouldn't be so optimistic if I were you. Given my experience and my knowledge of the subject, I can tell you that it will take you at least 2 years to reach the goal you set for yourself. And that's only in the best-case scenario. In case you don't feel sorry for yourself. You won't go off your diet and eat everything. You will strictly follow all the rules you set yourself. I wanted to lose weight at your age, too. But I did two things. First, I bought an awesome smart scale at vont.com. Second, I studied the question thoroughly from a scientific point of view. Any nuances concerning this issue were taken into account by me. As a result, I achieved what I wanted.

This is more or less what I have been doing. I quit caffeine (Diet Coke) mid July, then went on a Nutritarian diet (Google Dr Fuhrman) mid August. I'm 53 yo, 6'-4" and was 290#. 15 weeks this Friday, this morning I was 236#. It hasn't been the easiest thing I've ever done, but it isn't difficult.

I went from eating bar burgers and fries, to fruits, vegetables and salads. When you eat a lot of high nutrient low calorie food, you take in a lot fewer calories, but are actually more satisfied.

    Good luck!

Started out at 240 four weeks ago, and hit the scales at 225 this morning. Short term goal is 20+ lbs before Christmas, and an additional 20 lbs after the first of the year. I really need to get down to ~190, so I'll probably shoot for 30 in the second stage.

Signed up for an 8K race in late March, so I want to be down under 200 lbs when I run it.

As for running, I've been walking three miles every morning for at least 8 years, but I started mixing in a little jogging about two months ago by jogging until my heart rate hit 130, then walking until it dropped below 100...rinse and repeat. I bumped my max heart rate to 135 bpm when I lost 10 lbs. I'm feeling pretty good, so I might bump that to 140 when I hit -20 lbs.

I didn't get to the point where I was able to jog the entire 3 miles until November 16th, when I ran (jogged) a 43:53. This morning I ran a 35:24, and my times are still dropping. Hopefully I'll be in the 27-28 minute range by the time I've lost 40 lbs (early March?). I used to run 5Ks in that time two decades ago.

Not bad for a guy in his 60s. If I continue running throughout 2023, might finally shoot for a half the following year. I've never run one of those...yet.
