Joking a side Porsche center locks are primarily for looks. It takes a special tool to operate, and lots of skill to not scratch them.

The origins are in racing where 'tool marks' are not in the vocabulary. But in a $200K+ GT car folks want them to stay perfect. Many shops won't even touch center locks because they don't have the tool or don't want to assume the risk.
