i agree with that, i have the mk2 URD and modified it by removing all the 3" and replacing with 2.25" all the way back. that resolved the awful metallic resonance but also hugely tightened up throttle control and increased torque. the change wasn't really subtle, either. the choice of 3" must have been someone tryin to make it sound like a truck or something but it's awful with that size pipe on this motor.

Your truck won't be due for smog until 2027. Just keep the stock components and reinstall them when it's due for smog.

I don't have any sound clip for the new set up. Won't be back until Friday, so hopefully by then I will be able to make a sound clip.

Yeah, when I first got the URD, I thought I broke something when I floored it... It sounded worse when you are in stop&go traffic and are usually within that 3-4k range.

aFe's ypipe fixed a lot of that metallic resonance for me.

I have this same concern, unrelated to towing, though. The URD Mk.2 Y-pipe runs the left exhaust pipe directly underneath the transmission fluid pan. Most aftermarket reroutes push the tube up closer to the transfer case under the OEM heat shield or extend it further back and route it behind the transfer case near the prop shaft U-joint.

Can anyone comment on this? URD seems to have been in business for a while and I’d like to think they know what they’re doing. Tucking the exhaust right next to the tranny just seems… questionable to me.

I have been shopping for a Y Pipe or Cat Shield. I have not decided yet. I found this video on the AFE Y Pipe that looks like it is away from the transmission pan. The guy does have a couple of complaints about the AFE pipe.

In regards to the video, he mentions he has leaks at the points where the pipes connects to each other. I find that is usually the case with band/U clamps "squeezing" the pipe to make a seal.

Same thing happened with my old URD Ypipes.

I always switch them out with lap joint band clamps to cover the whole joint, and I use some high temp copper gasket maker to seal everything up.
