We also frequented Toes Tavern (RIP). Very fun place.

fyi The Shack is still there, alive and well.

    Mmmm ... Shack Burger

The Shack has another location in Littleton, CO, where I watched the Broncos win Super Bowl 50. Same owners.

Wheeled Kelly flats Saturday. Clear blue skies, the smell of pine, and unlimited visibility. The last time I was at Kelly Flats was early June 2020. It is much more impressive early July. The fields of flowers were gorgeous. Butterflies fluttering, hawks hovering, and a big owl coasted across the trail in front of me. I showed up at the trailhead at 9:15. I thought I was meeting someone at 9:30 but by 9:45 they didn’t show so it was time to go.

@johntoyota would be proud of me airing down to 15 psi and, with a little better skinny pedal control, I had less wheelspin cruising up the obstacles on Heart Attack Hill.
    IMG_4071.jpg

I had the trail to myself. It was quiet and peaceful.
    IMG_4072.jpg

    IMG_4075.jpg

I stopped for lunch at the Chutes where I saw a couple of trail bikes, the only people I'd see on the trail. One of them danced up the rocks expertly, popping a wheelie to get the front tire on top of the ledge, then sending it the rest of the way. There was no one around to hear me practice the violin. @Wulf, you missed the concert! I continued on the trail.

Even the section of burnt trees at the end of the trail provided their own beauty by contrasting with the colorful flowers decorating the forest floor. Another great day in Colorado!

Forgot to mention, I ran Red Cone last week. They have done a bunch of maintaince to the trail. No more gate keeper/ hard obstacles

I saw a Ford Excursion, stock 4 runner, Nissan Pathfinder while running it. People looked like they were in way over there heads. The excursion was from Iowa and saw the trail online, decided to do it. All of them past the gate keeper, almost to the top of the pass.

That is unfortunate, and likely going to increase the riff raff on the trail and said riff raff going off trail and general fucking shit up.

Wheeler lake was great this weekend. You can do this trail open open in a first gen on 33s or double locked on 37s in a third gen lol

Dude St. Elmo was Texas SXS city. I've never seen so many 100k dollar pretty boy f350 towing giant toy haulers with Texas plates in my life. They're ripping up and down the dirt road illegaly now.

If you get to the parking lot and don't have $10,000 worth of 22x14s with rubber band eBay MTs on your diesel a dude who looks like Guy Fieri dressed like Adam Sandler will waterboard you with Mango Whiteclaw until you apologize while Jawga Boys blasts from a nearby SXS

Went there a couple of years ago to show my GF and daughter the ghost towns. Camped up Hancock Pass a couple of nights.

Add that area to the list of "never going back again." So many UTVs/side-by-sides and douchebags behind the wheels of them. No regards to staying on trails, treading lightly, etc.
